I have just moved into an apartment in a block of apartments and there is a large metal outlet plate in the lounge which contains two outlets for the Sky+ box from the landlords Sky dish,an outlet for normal Tv and a couple of twin sockets.
There is another coax which goes from behind the plate round the skirting into my bedroom over which I can Sky or Freeview.
My mate who Im renting the apartment with would like the same in his bedroom but we have been told that we cannot put a splitter/booster on the outlet in my bedroom as the (Voltage?) would damage my Sky box and/or the landords equipment! Is this true? If so how do we get Sky and Freeview into my mates bedroom?
Thanks.

You cant use splitters - the band switching means the system is an active system not a passive one. If he wants to watch different programmes from you you need a separate feed from the dish or if its in apartments more likely from the distribution point. This is probably going to be expensive.

We are quiet happy to have the facility were the same programme,on either sky or freeview, is only available in each bedroom. It is unlikely that we will both be in the apartment at the sametime and it would mean we could lay in our respective beds and watch TV. I hope this makes sense.

The easiest way is going to be be using a video sender , although quality can be a bit iffy if there wifi in the house - it can interfere badly.

Any other way is going to require cabling from somewhere to the second bedroom

Either the dish / distro unit or from your bedroom so you can use a magic eye.

Yep, option to view via RF from the digibox [same programme]. Two feeds can be fed from one box by using an IR amplifier which will also allow IR control.

It will be easiest to cable from my bedroom. What is a magic eye? Would it be possible for you to let me have a shopping list of parts with catalogue numbers etc.One of my uncles is quiet handy with cables and technology I could ask him to install all the bits for me.Thank you.

Google Sky magic eye and you will get the general idea. Ive got better things to do with my time than make up your shopping list for you.

Put one of these in the bedroom: _http://www.tvlink.co.uk/t-series-amplifiers.htm

Then run a cable from one of the outlets to the second room. You can then put a TVLink on either of the points and control the Sky digibox. _http://www.tvlink.co.uk/tvlink-black.htm

Captainchuckles. I don’t think long term you will be happy watching the same programmes as your mate.

As you seem to be spending more time watching TV in the bedroom, I would ask the landlord if you could get someone or he could get someone to run cables to your bedrooms.

In your case - if you are subscribing o Sky - I would take one sat feed and extend it to your bedroom, and the other feed to your mates (obviously you won’t have full Sky plus functionality but you will be able to watch your own programmes independently).

For Freeview - the best option if you don’t want to subscribe - you will need a small aerial amplifier (3 or 4 way out). Plug the aerial in from the wall plate. Use a small fly lead from the lowest amplified output to the TV in the lounge, and then run cables from the other outputs to your respective bedrooms. That way three different channels can be viewed simultaneously.
