This is a little warning to everybody who is considering playing with C Band stuff :-righton

Don't buy the cheepest lnb you find on ebay as you will inevitably get stung.

After ordering the LNB which was supposed to be a brand called Pauxis (Not bad reveiws apparently), a package eventually turned up by rickshaw direct from Hong Kong. After excitedly opening the pack i was greeted with a box that was all in chinese with a brand name of Terrific. It contained the poorest shi**est quality lnb i have ever seen. It looks nice, but thats about it. It didn't fit inside the lnb holder because it was too small and to be honest the levels i got were more than diapointing :-ohcrap

It was also miles too small for the WS international Scalar ring i had purchased in order to use it with my offset dish.

Anyway i've decided not to be such a cheapskate now and i have purchased a WS International ESX241 lnb for the grand total of £21 all in from the States :-righton

Don't buy a cheap lnb off ebay from Hong Kong, China or the far east as you will get what you pay for. They know by selling them cheap they will never get sent back as it costs more to send it back than you paid for the damn thing. They have you by the short and curlys

At least get one from the States as you will have a far better chance of getting what you want and getting an lnb that at least fits the holder :D

They have just sent me a cheapo chinese knock off because they know it will cost me more to send it back than i paid or it. The performance is well and truly horrendous. I'm going to try it on my mates 1.5m sometime this week to see if its any better, but i really doubt that it will be :(

Don't buy the cheepest lnb you find on ebay as you will inevitably get stung. As not to drag the forum into a dispute with ebay i'm not going to mention directly the seller but he states hes in Taiwan.

What a load of c**p, "Terrific", they should have called it "Horrific" as that would have been more truthful.

Anyway i've decided not to be such a cheapskate now and i have purchased a WS International ESX241 lnb for the grand total of £21 all in from the States :-righton

Hi Nano ...
If your LNB is as bad gain wise as you say ..I can totally sympathise ...but looking at the photo it looks physically correct.
Not entirely sure what you mean by ..it being to big for the bracket ?

If you mean the fitted ku bracker on your current dish ...then this will apply to _all_ cband lnbs ..
They are all approx 62mm diameter at the opening/throat...so you need to change the lnb holder for the one supplied with the scalar ring set ..
This would be approx correct for mounting the lnb positionally and slope wise ..

As to the scalar feed ...
Is it the conical blue type ?

These usually come equipped with three screws which close around the lnb feed ..and there will be a gap around the lnb feed and in betweed the bore of the conical feed ..
This is normal ..as the lnb tube/feed slopes... being wider at the front and narrowing in diameter toward the actual electronics..
Again ..this is normal ...and the conical feed bolts are adjusted to grip the feed and accomodate this ..as its position varies according to the fd / type of dish its fitted to.

Some pictures of the problems you are encoutering would help ..as this might throw some light on whats going wrong.

..incidentally ...the ESX421 you have ordered from the states is an excellent high gain product ...but will look and 'feel' much the same as the cheapo Taiwan one ..
They are all lightweight units ...and physically much of a muchness..

Funnily enough, my initial reaction on picking it up out of the box was, blimey, that's light for the size of it! My only word of caution about the 241, the paint don't like gaffer tape! I didn't like seeing the LNB sitting off centre in the scalar rings once the single screw had been tightened so I packed it with a strip of gaffer on the opposite side, great till I went to move it and all the grey paint come off to reveal bare aluminium. Nothing a life next to the sea won't sort out lol

I totally understand your initial reaction Paul ..
I too thought it might be a good idea to pack the gap between lnb and scalar ring at first..
But realising that the lnb feed slopes wide to narrow ...and not parallel sides ..it became obvious ..that this was the reason for the gap ..and the 1 (pf scalar)or 3 screws (conical scalar)to adjust ..
once you have it correctly positioned for the FD of your dish ..I guess its safe to pack it ..if it remains there unmoved
But ..if like me you are constantly making changes and ajustments ...it needs to be removeable and adjustable ...so best left as is..

I actually stated it was too small for the bracket :D

I'm using it on an offset dish so i purchased as WS International Scalar ring and bracket as pictured.

The cheap lnb was about 5mm shy of being gripped by the bracket :-doh!

Yes, I can see why the clamp didn't work Nano. If you compare photo's, you'll see my LNB is significantly wider towards the 'throat' end, whereas your one is merely a straight tube. That's probably why it's performance was as poor as you've experienced.

Agreed ...I suspect I had misunderstood what you were getting at Nano ..
It does indeed suggest the lnb you got was straight tubed and not sloping..
I don't blame you for being abgry ..when the rip off merchants couldn't get such a basic dimension right
At lest you wont be dissapointed with the ESX.
