I will agree with Huevos on the point of dish size. I fitted a few(perhaps more) 1.1m dishes since 1N went on line and explained it was only a temporary sat. All have saved lots of €€€€,s compared to 20+€ per month, and those that have lost some, or even all channels, are calling back for advice on solution, rather than go back to re-beam

This is exactly the type of response which should have been given out by all installers and many, including the one I used did just that and so full marks to those people. Given the information it was then easy to decide whether to risk a cheaper system for a year or so knowing that might change later or wait until things settled down. However I know of people who were not told of the possibility of later changes and so did not have the opportunity to make a reasonable decision about their system and that is the only part I was referring to. Those using this and other forums will already have been alerted to the potential problems and simply by using such forums are investigating potential issues. However not everyone uses or is even aware of a forum and so may not be so technically savvy and some alas were caught out.

Hi All, will know doubt be changhing a few 1.1m dishes up to 1.4 in my area due to signal strength and obstructions in line of sight. Anyone in Javea or Bennissa interested in second hand 1.1m dishes for a small fee?

Just a joke, if I get a few will advise and pass on for free. (or a pint or two)

I've had a number of reports from Murcia/Alicante area of 1.4 m dishes not receiving the BBC. I may be corrected, but as far as I'm aware, Sharp have never made prime focus LNBs. It looks as though one installer has been fitting these home made prime focus LNB/feedhorn combinations. The owner says it was installed last year. Appears to be a Sharp offset LNB with the front cut off and an ADF-120 or similar prime focus feedhorn stuck on. The performance is well down on what it should be, needless to say. Another close up pic shows a decayed label - the LNB wasn't even new!

Interesting LNB, I used to be a big fan of those white Sharp LNBs (in their original form!). I've still got about four of them and they worked as well as a Black Ultra for me but only came in the single version and are quite rare now.

I will ask the owner how much he paid. He's going to be really upset at being ripped off. How do I break it to him gently?

There were loads of those modified LNBs. But Sharp stopped making the source LNB about 5 years ago. The modified LNB used to work really well on 1.4m dishes in Torrevieja area for 2D reception... until Badr5 launched. After that they were pretty rubbish.

But why go to all the bother of modding an offset LNB for a PF dish when there are really good PF lnbs available?

People do allsorts of strange things when trying to get the best performance in fringe reception areas.

If memory serves me right the Sharp claim to fame was a very low NF. If that means a smaller dish could be used thereby either saving money or allowing a dish to be fitted where there is little space then people are going to do it.

Back in the Astra 2D day's people on the Costa del Sol used Amstrad receivers. How weird is that. You wouldn't normally expect the words Amstrad and best to go together is a single sentence! But that was one of the best receivers for their area.

There was this story on the trade that those sharp LNB with C120 feedhorn performed better than anything else. I have tested a couple of those specimens and they performed little bit worse than an Invacom, I will say that they performed as good as a MTI C120 LNB.

Ultimately all was to sell a little bit of "black art" and on doing so being able to charge more €€€ in an install.

sorry to all esp Kota for my incorrect posting the othe night. it will not happen again, and thanks to the staff member who took it off. SORRY I AM NEW and don,t know all the rules. Perhaps a staff member can advise the best place to ask a quesion similar to the one I asked. (you have my e-mail address)

Back to the thread

Re-installed a 1M dish(over 15 years old with new inverto black lnb) taken from north side of hill on Quesada and placed on south east side of Quesada with no tall buildings around it and have all BBC, ITV CH4 etc in sd with no problems. Could not check HD as had to lend box to a friend (rojales, alicante)

Hi All, re-alined 1m famaval with inverto black ultra in middle of golg course in Quesada (Rojales) at approx 10:55:05 this morning and managed to restore all BBC, ITV C4 etc including some BBC HD. Not a good location as many other buildings around and half way down a north sloping hill.

Conversly, fitted a new 1.35 Galaxy Innovations (according to them Famaval) dish on south east slope on the other side of Quesada this afternoon, at approx 17:30:35 and had a bit of a problem getting good reception on some BBC (ie Scotland sd) and CH4 +1. Got them in the end, but it was hard work.

Don,t think I built the dish wrongly!

P.S. Anyone lone me a wheelchair as knees are geting tired of going up and down ladders!

I'd like to see you going up and down ladders in a wheelchair. :-rofl2 :-lol

Deso, watch this space! When not playing with dishes I do international removals. We have external elevators that can lift most things, EVEN ME IN A WHEELCHAIR!

Sorry, out of line, and not thread related, please would the senior administrator remove after Deso has a chance to read this, thanks
