Hi chaps,

On some devices, it is possible to plug in a cable with an IR sensor on the end of it. This would allow me to place the sensor anywhere I want, away from the receiver and still operate it.

In my office/man-cave, my receiver is pretty much behind me with a TV. However, I have a small TV on my desk connected to it and I have to point the remote backwards to operate the receiver. Could I, in theory (and practice, solder another sensor to the existing IR points in the receiver and put the sensor on my desk? Any caveats with doing that?

Thanks

Yep. The mirror principle is a good one: I've found that with tricky juxtapositions (Beat that for word of the day), you can find a reflective path off eg a wall or a ceiling that makes contact nicely.

Don´t they run on a bulk standard " Jack plug " , surely ( not shirley ) you can by a decent length extension cable for one of those for Maplin or radio shack? ( If they still exist, been away from the UK awhile now )

Hey, now.
Need to stick to the spirit of the forum here...

Get a 40 cm Gibby.
Buy a bag of mirror tiles.
Glue mirror tiles to surface of dish.
Mount dish on wall in front if CJ.
Put lamp in front of IR eye on receiver.
Aling dish so that light hits where LNB would be.
Remove light.
Mount RCU in LNb holder.
Be happy....

(it would be tempting to put IR transmitter of IR extender in LNB holder, and put IR reciever on top of Dish, but you might get nasty feedback loops :) )

You could of course unsolder the LED from the RCU, and put a cable between the RCU and the LNB holder, where the LED then would reside. But that sort of zaps the idea of the remote, doesn't it?

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Don't you know? I thought everybody had heard, that something of the ornithological type was the word...
