It was not long until Massa overtook his colleague, and the worry was that 3rd place Jarno Trulli might catch up with Kimi.However, these fears were unfounded as Trulli couldn’t maintain his pace and would eventually be dragged into a struggle to keep his own podium place. Heikki Kovalainen was biting at every turn in the final laps of the race, but Trulli pulled out a brilliant end-of-race performance to take home a top-3 finish for Toyota.Earlier in that same battle, Robert Kubica looked like he might have a say in where the last podium spot would go, but the poor BMW car of this weekend meant Kubica fell away and ended in 5th. Well behind him was Mark Webber in 6th.Taking the final points were Renault duo Nelson Piquet Jnr and Fernando Alonso, 7th and 8th respectively.Alonso had a more eventful race than Piquet, going as high as 5th during the shakedown of pit periods, and also holding up old adversary Lewis Hamilton.Hamilton failed to score at all. Having to start 13th on the grid meant it would need a miracle/rain for LH to have merely a chance of victory, even get on the podium, but when he cut the chicane to overtake Sebastian Vettel in the opening lap, and consequently handed a drive-through penalty, it was game over.
