With Raikkonen now in Hamilton’s mirrors, the pair pitted at the same time. Hamilton returned out in front of Kimi, but while Lewis changed tyres, Kimi stayed with his.

This difference in tyre strategy would go on to not only give Lewis victory, but the win of his career so far. Hamilton raced away into the distance, while Kimi fell away.

Hamilton went on to lap faster than just about everyone on-track, with only Rubens Barrichello matching his times in the rain – Barrichello was the only driver sporting extreme wet tyres, but Hamilton was still using intermediates. Rubens rocketed past everyone he came across and for a time he even looked like he could catch up with Lewis!
