http://www.formula1.com/race/result/762/24.html This was meant to be the weekend when Michael Schumacher truly relaunched his assault on Fernando Alonso’s title on home soil. Instead, qualifying would provide the German crowd with a different kind of home victor. It would be McLaren, powered by German Mercedes-Benz engines, which rocketed Kimi Raikkonen to his first pole of the season. So fast was his time, which many suspect to be courtesy of a low-fuel load, was more than a tenth of second fastest than Schumi’s best effort. Massa (3rd) is just behind his Ferrari team mate on the grid, and Jenson Button finds himself where he (arguably) should be in his Honda – 4th on the grid – after recent shocking qualifying performances. Alonso had a dismal qualifying, not only well back in 7th, but also out-qualified by team mate Giancarlo Fisichella, who is 5th on the grid for tomorrow’s race. Barrichello (6th) finds himself in the Renault sandwich, while the top 10 is rounded off by Ralf Schumacher (8th), Pedro de la Rosa (9th), and David Coutlhard (10th). Saturday’s disappointing performances include single lap French GP leader Jarno Trulli, who finds himself way back in 13th, and Williams driver Mark Webber who only just missed the top 10 final qualifying session, placed in 11th.
