During the safety car period, Massa, Schumi, and Alonso pitted on the same lap, and it was this that allowed Alonso to overtake Schumi for 2nd as the German qued behind Massa.</span></em></span></em></p><p> <em><span style="font-family: 'Verdana'"></span></em></p><p><em><span style="font-family: 'Verdana'"><em><span style="font-family: 'Verdana'">This set-up a thrilling finale, as with 15 laps to go, Michael Schumacher was closing in on Alonso, who clearly had difficulty in breaking in slow corners, but the German’s own lack of pace in faster corners ultimately cost him the opportunity of a real passing attempt.
