http://www.formula1.com/race/result/765/24.html The events of Saturday have set-up what will hopefully be a thrilling race at Monza. With mere seconds to go, Kimi Raikkonen stole pole position from the clutches of Michael Schumacher. The Finn, who it seems is destined to replace the German legend next season (announcement due after this weekend’s race), will be hoping to carry his good qualifying performance through to record McLaren’s first win of the season, with only four races remaining. This left Schumi 2nd on the grid, but he may not be sweating on the performance of Alonso in tomorrow’s race as he may have been. The reigning world champion had an atrociously unlucky final session of qualifying, first overshooting the first chicane and picking up debris in the process which caused a right-rear puncture. Two pit stops were needed to get the right tyres and repair bodywork, leaving him needing to blitz his outlap just the make it before the chequered flag so he could record a fast lap. That he done, putting down the 5th fastest time. However, his efforts were in vain, as the race stewards penalised him for unintentionally blocking Massa, who was on a hot lap, and as a result is a net 10th place on the grid. This slots him behind Renault team mate Giancarlo Fisichella (9th). Although Felipe Massa looked fast throughout, he could only manage the 4th fastest time. He is behind Nick Heidfeld (3rd), whose BMW-Sauber team had an encouraging qualifying session, as Robert Kubica is 7th on the grid. Honda also find both their drivers in the top 10; Button 5th, Barrichello 8th. Pedro de la Rosa, 7th on the grid, completes the top end of the grid Those less successful include Red Bull Racing, who looked to be lacking pace, with Coulthard and Klien 14th and 16th respectively. Toyota also disappointed; Trulli 11th, Ralf Schumacher 13th, whilst MarkWebber (19th) suffered the indignity of being knocked out in the first qualifying session.
