cable is disappearing fast;it s only in Belgium, the Netherlands and switzerland... replaced by internet tv...and vpns.
Lyon,Toulouse or Marseille NEVER had cable,we went from DTT to internet TV straight,& their offer( Free,Orange,SFR and the like) does not go beyond French language and "immigrant" stuff (North africa mainly)...so,no bbc ,maybe 1 italian,1 spanish 1 portuguese that s it.. Very unsufficient!
OK,and world service ,CNN,bloomberg.
Too bad we can 't subscibe toBBC britbox, then things would be honest at least.
btw ,if I m in London or Birmingham, using a local "cable" what will I get in French or Spanish ?
The only 'cable' in England (bar a smattering of community / estate networks has been Virgin Media for around 20 years.

Their line up

If you were with a modern terrestrial/smart television with access to the internet you can get a few foreign channels on the bundled services.

I have a Roku engined TV which has a number of included apps, I will check whats available without subbing/TV tax later

Thank you!! just a symetric of what Orange,SFR ,Bouygues....etc offer here.
Very few channels from Neighbour Countries:Ireland,France,Belgium,Germany,Norway!
So,not what a European citizen needs.
Hence my idea there should be a "media exchange" on a european scale,so we could all share the media creativityof Europe .
International phone companies should be able to offer this. Here, they don't.
Not a single bundle includes BBC 1 2 3 4...
Nor Virgin includes France 2,3,4,and 5
Kabelio is the present solution,it has BOTH...
Just my view.
Btw,Virgin here has kept only a rusty radio station...Vodaphone is absent.

As far as I understand the premise of Kabelio sat is to provide the service carried on cable TV in Switzerland, where cable is not available and also it is explicitly mentioned that Swiss people with holiday homes, motorhomes etc can use it to carry on as if they were at home. Approx. 9 million population, not sure what proportion might use it.

I decided this service was worth a try and have been watching for about a month now. It's quite a good offering with about 70 channels of varying nationality, obviously aimed at the make-up of Swiss society.

We already have British, Irish, Spanish and Portuguese channels, now added to those via Kabelio: French, German, Swiss, Austrian and Italian. There are radio channels too. As a bonus the CAM works in the CI slot in the Technomate 5402 formerly used for Intelsat 27.5w.

The dish is a bit small so the signal could be bettered.

Unfortunately I don't think there is any option to pay monthly because it is not a subscription as such, rather you pay to activate the CAM and it allows you to view the channels for a certain period.

It seems that the CAMs as supplied come with three months free viewing included, the CAM has to be activated to use this.

The common extension periods seem to be 6 or 12 months, 3 months may be possible but I don't think I have seen this advertised.

As such, once you have extended the access period there is no way of reversing it for a refund, it just expires at the end of that period unless you extend it again. I don't think loss of channels is being considered...

As a point of interest I noticed something tonight - for a variety of cabling issue reasons I was watching the same Euro2024 match with the same feed from the pitch, on two different TVs within sight of each other, each via entirely different broadcasters.

Indoors we had Portugal-Slovenia on RTP1 and outside the same match on BBC1 via Kabelio. There was a very hefty delay on the Kabelio version, to the extent that Mrs. Martillo was commenting on a corner about to be taken and I said he's already taken it in the lounge!

I counted 20 seconds between identical events on the two screens, presumably the signals really are being received from 28.2e in Switzerland, combined, uplinked to 13e and broadcast back down to us here and it's enough to add that kind of delay

Meanwhile RTP1 is coming direct to us from 30w.

I suppose so long as they can still be received FTA in Switzerland they will remain, since that is the premise of their re-broadcasting. How long that is for, who knows.

I'll have to add Mooz Dance, when I added the Kabelio TPs it wasn't there yet. There are some other FTA channels on some of the other TPs so I'll probably scan and add those at the same time.

What about Kabelio's CAM module? Is it CI or CI+?
At the beginning it was advertised as CI+, but it seems that it works in most CI-enabled receivers (not tested by me).
Any additional info please? Thanks.

The CAM is CI+ but does work in a CI receiver. As I understand it that happens because CI+ features have not been enabled.

Presumably it is possible that they could be enabled in the future and then the CAMs will stop working if your receiver is not CI+.20240514_145801(0).jpg
