Keyboard lag: QBox-S2, Samsung R20 and Ubuntu 10.04

I'm trying to set up a Mythtv back end on a Samsung R20 laptop running Ubuntu 10.04/Lucid Lynx. I have built and installed the Qbox S2 driver along with the firmware, but have this annoying problem where the moment the Qbox is plugged in the keyboard response slows right down with a second or more of lag, even longer if I plug in two Qboxes. Running scan for Astra 1 detects loads of channels so the drivers seem to be working otherwise.

The lag also seems to affect remote connections over ssh as well. top doesn't show anything odd going so I'm not sure what's going on?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
