In simple terms, one of the 3D screen systems with no need for glasses. The (main) other being parallax barrier technology.
You may have had badges in the 80's which appeared to move, or seen promotional posters that 'morph' in a sequence of still images depending on the viewed angle. Both used a form of lenticular system to allow 'depth' to be observed.

Philips have been working on 3D screen designs for almost 10 years, many of the patents are attributed to the company, however Toshiba is likely to be the first company to offer the technology to the consumer with a proposed December launch in Japan.
