I'm not sure of the health and safety aspect of walking round in an electrical storm with (foil underpants and ) a whip aerial but one member of the local amateur radio club to here has been involved in the Blitzortung project.

My Satellite Setup
OpenBox X5 on a 1 meter motorized dish.
And now a 10 foot "C" band dish.

Custom built PC
My Location
Deep in the Boonies in the central Sierra Nevada mountains of California.
Quote Forrest Gump, "Stupid is, stupid does" you don't go anywhere near an antenna or wear any type of metal during a lightning storm.

I have seen a 250 foot aluminum communication tower melted to the ground when a big one hit, took several minuets for my eyes to clear before I saw it.
