Worth replacing the complete dish as the adaptor will not fit without butchering.

is it easy replacing the dish? could i just take the old one off and put the new one in the exact position (there abouts) i.e. putting the bracket holder in the same place or does it not work like that? i really dont want an engineer to do the job as they charge daft amount of money.

The Mk3 & Mk4 dishes come with a slightly different sized wall mount so probably best to replace. If you do manage to make the new dish fit to the existing L type (with the use of a U clamp), then mark up the dish before and then you won't be far away. Good luck :)

if i use the wall mount supplied with the mk4 dish could i put it in the position of the old one and expect good signal or is it best to get a sat finder and do it that way?

If you mount the new dish at exactly the same elevation and azimuth angle as the existing one you could strike lucky, but in general, no, you will need to align the dish using a signal meter of some sort, the Sky box has a built in one, that would probably suffice if you are patient.
