Max cable length from dish to multiswitch?

Hello everyone,

I've taken on a job for my block of flats to install a communal satellite system for 13E and 42E, as the council wants all dishes removed ASAP. There is a system in place fro Sky to every flat. The Multiswitch is on the third floor of a 6 floor block and I want to install the new multiswitch (which can take three sats) in the same riserto make things simple and easy for future installers. My question is the drop from the roof to 3rd floor is about 25-30m, will I need an amp? If so, what kind?

Everything else for terrestrial is in place and plates in flats all OK.

What is the max cable length from dish to multiswitch?

if you use good cable, an amp is only used for cable length over 50 meters.

If your going to do this type of work, it might be an idea to get yourself a professional spectrum analyser or meter, so you measure the signal losses from the antennas down to the headend. A general understanding of how IRS systems work might also be an advantage.

This question cannot be answered correctly not knowing the signal level received, but in theroy a 30Mtr drop of 1mm coaxial will give you approx 9dB - 10dB loss @ 2Ghz.
