Hi guys & gals. I'm VERY happy with my two brand new 1.2m offset dishes.

I wanted to upgrade from my steel 1.0m dish. I went to a dealer who had what they described as "plastic" dishes. I was curious what they were talking about. So when they wheeled out the dusty boxes and I saw Sk@wa%e Gl^bal on them I was stunned. So for 222 euros I received 2 brand new dishes with fixed az/el mounts, 2 brand new Sk@wa%e Gl^bal three inch galvanized pipe wall/roof mount kits. The dishes also came with Sharp brand North American Ku circular DSS lnbf's (I'm not going to use these however cause our North American ku FTA signals are linear. Apparently the package of dish & mount & lnbf was designed for areas in the north of Canada where the DSS signal was weak.
so I treated myself to a skyware global dual linear polarity wideband ku feedhorn & two NJR wideband ku lnb's to put on it. Model # NJR2842H.
I found an old 7.5 ft c-band mesh dish that was in really rough shape locally but the price was right (free in exchange for removal labor). So I modified that polar mount to accept one of the 1.2m dishes. I'm going to put up one of the dishes right away for the Atlantic region satellites. Pushing the dish to view the Clarke Belt will be a refurbished and repainted Von-Wiese 24inch 36v actuator with a diseq V-box 7.

Nice! Not sure how good a signal you'll get from inside your house though! :D

That polar mount looks fit for a nice 1.8m Channel Master as well...

yes more pics to come a the project progresses. thanks for the encouragement. I must admit I made an error. I thought I could account for the dish offset by lowering the elevation but that's wrong. so i'll have to figure out an easy way to tilt the dish forward in relation to the back ring of the mount. as the marvin the martian said back to ye old drawing board :)

That is real bargain you got there beavs2112! At least something which is made not in China  I think it is impossible to find something on the market which could be better. Top stuff.
You better look for another polar mount for second antenna, even if you going to use it for fixed setup.

Any other available? I'd like to slap a CM 1.2 in place of my fortec in the Spring.

Plenty on the Bay of e in the UK :)

I would have thought they were quite easy to obtain there. Don't DirecTV use fibre glass dishes too (saw a lot of these in Barbados)

Astonishing find.
IMHO, the polar Mount is the coup-de-resistance.
the CM120s are available, but as Cj says, the polar Mount could Work with a CM180....
Incredible luck, my frined. Godspeed with the your Projects.

Hi Costactc :) Sadly no .... that dealer (GTA Electronics 7222 Torbram Rd, Unit 16 Mississauga, Ontario L4T 3V2) said they were the last two they had. Apparently they were purchased around 2010. But if Skyware Global is selling these kits in Canada maybe another sat dealer could order more. Satcom Resources in the States has them at a reasonable price but the shipping & customs is a lot. http://www.satcomresources.com/Skyw...Ku-Band-Rx-Only-Antenna?sc=28&category=249273

If only I could find one reasonably priced. I've seen some General Dynamics Satcom (ex Prodelin) 1.8m dishes documented here http://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/threads/investment-firms-old-dish.161217/ but the firms either want a lot of money for them or need me to have contractor insurance since they're near the roofs of the buildings or they're not willing to part with them. It's really stupid in my opinion cause they aren't being used.

Sadly good 1.2m fiberglass dishes are very hard to come by in Canada. We can order them from the manufacturers in the USA but the price goes way up (sometimes more than twice the dish cost) due to shipping costs & USA - Canada import customs fees & taxes. Since the FTA market in Canada is very small compared to Europe or the USA hardly any dealers buy the good dishes cause they don't sell well. Most people in Canada that want FTA TV want the cheapest & smallest dish possible. So there are a lot of cheap 1.0m & 1.2m very thin steel dishes(made in China mostly).

DirecTV ( & the Canadian equivalent Bell) normally uses small steel dishes 0.5m or less (18-20 inch.) because their satellites are much higher powered. DirectTV does use 1.2m fiberglass Prodelins in the Hawaii & Alaska states in the USA but they won't sell them to us Canadians :)

Hi beavs, I was lucky like you and got my 1.8 in a similar way to your 1.2s, its still sat in the shed at the moment, but it wont be long before its pulling in them hard to reach transponders :).

Thanks for the reply. I found an Andrews 1.2m dish for $140 US on ebay but with shipping it would have cost approximately $450 US. I'll keep looking here, anything to replace my 1.2m Fortec.

It would be cheaper to ship one from Yoorop I think! $450! I am sure I was quoted far less than that to import a 1.8m Channel Master from the US of A...

There is a resto chain here in NA called East Side Marios which has a channel master dish which looks like it hasn't been used in years. I think I'll ask the owner if I can buy it but there isn't any mount.

Also I forgot to remind you that old Edward Jones Investment offices used 1.8M Prodelin dishes. They're not used anymore since they went to internet. The newer offices don't have them just internet access. you might have better luck than me convincing them to part with one.
