update for you guys & gals. I spent most of today installing my 1.2 on my roof. change of plan though. was going to be polar mount. that is progressing but still working on best mounting position for reflector to keep weight balanced. so going with fixed az/el for now. 3 in pipe mount bolted to rafters with 3/8x3 lag screws. also pipe filled with concrete @ top & bottom ends to prevent crushing. pipe & feedhorn wired to electrical gnd as per national electric code & channel master recommendations. WP_20141211_006.jpg WP_20141211_013.jpg little brother looking @ 91w (a nice mix of sports & news feeds there) while big brother stands guard. WP_20141211_014.jpg my temporary work platform below the dish & my 1in safety rope (I wear a fall arrest harness) View attachment 70777 safety anchor point & spare rg6 cable (I always run extra if possible) WP_20141211_008.jpg my outside conduit & junction box big enough to hold multiswitches etc View attachment 70782 the end of the conduit & service head with cable drip loop. the rag is to keep the paper wasps getting induring summer months & making nests. their sting really hurts View attachment 70783 inside junction box is cable surge protector again as as per national electric code & channel master recommendations,WP_20141211_020.jpg
signal levels & quality are awesome.

Looking good my friend, nice neat job. :D

I like those work platform supports, are they screwed through your felt shingles into the sarking/rafters below? Does that not cause a problem with sealing up the holes, bitumen or silicone or whatever?

hi Riverblue. the supports are these http://www.homedepot.ca/product/extreme-adjustable-roof-bracket/813477. held in with 6 screws. its a crappy pic with not a lot of important detail. I put a temp shingle underneath them so they don't dig into the regular shingles. they are removable so I leave 3 of the screws in the roof when I take them down. they have slots for 3 of the screws. I then bitumen over/around all 6 holes. no leaks so far (fingers crossed) after 1 year when I used them for my CM 3m install.

and a few close ups of the polar mount please.
anything specific on big brothers polar mount you want a picture of. I may already have one. I am planning on going up there (it is a ways off the ground after all) sometime in the next 5 days to transfer the actuator over to the east side of the dish. also I noticed some play in the actuator or mount in a recent high wind event. so the mount will be looked at & the actuator will be brought down for a look see. I also want to put up a larger box for the multiswitches.
I have been wanting to scan both c&ku on the sats from 4w to 30w for a while now. my original plan was to put up another 3m dish (my MZT 300-04 perforated) but that was put on hold for various reasons. so I will install another actuator & use this dish to accomplish the task.

Thank you beavs, anything really on the moving parts i am making my own mount as you know and anything to look at could alter my design, i also like looking at quality dishes so a nice front view would be nice and the LNB set up you have on big bro :).

So following Vipersans lead I decided to name my sat dishes. I have 2 PF dishes the 3m CM & one 3m MZT dish from Yugoslavia which isn't installed yet. Henceforth the 3m CM will be known as "Elisha" for Elisha Cuthbert & the 3m MZT will be known as "Rhona" for Rhona Mitra. The male offset dishes .. the one currently installed will be "Winston" for Winston Churchill & the other waiting to be installed will be "Spock".

alls well martin thanks :) yes I installed that wire from earth to the feed horn. I have not had any issues so far with lightning damage or voltage potential issues.
ps. I've been busy the last few months with changing my prodelin 1.8m offset dish from a fixed az/el to a polar mount.

I think I'll start a new thread on the restoration of the Prodelin dish & conversion to a polar mount.
