Beleive it or not I have watched them a long time ago. David Craig . There are 3 vids if it's the ones u refer to. It was annoying when they showed unpacking a brand new 1.8 CM WITH ITS CM polar mount but then not actually installing it. That would have been golden viewing for me. The rest of the videos showed 1.8 CMs on Jaeger 1224 motors. The last video shows a 1.8 CM being fitted 2 stories up on the narrow roof side of a house on a 1224 motor. I would be very paranoid about that. I Wonder if it survives to this day.

I think I managed to get my pole level. The flat part of polar mount was spot on on the spirit level but I was struggling with arc still

I think my polar mount elevation angle is wrong but I have set it to my latitude which is what @nelson_b has done and his arc is good.

Bit baffled by it
He uses a video camera on a polar mount to demonstrate what happens if the mount is not pointing due south, it overshoots one half of the arc and undershoots the other.. I'm about 2 degrees west of due south so tend to use 3W here...

not sure, ive had them on DVD (converted from VHS) for a long time.
Yes, same here, I converted mine some time back. The receivers and equipment is well out of date, but the theory is still valid..

I love seeing the brand new channel masters being unpacked. They were the days. Also being dragged on to roof and at the expo the Rx and TX models

It might be interesting for the specialists of the forum to make a post with texts, photos and tips for a full adjustment of a motorized, no ?
There were at least two on the forum - somewhere. Member T24 rings a bell but there was an outage where a number of posts were removed.

Otherwise the US site satelliteguys will have something for the larger prime focus installations.

What's interesting in the video that Dave guy (SSS dave ?) Uses the 90 minus latitude calculation for polar mount elevation angle. Something Nelson doesnt do and he's using the same mount as me . Not sure why or if I should bother trying as I don't want to go against sound advice from fellow member and someone using same mount as me

so placed here and set to 51.3

Well its around 53 degrees with me in Stoke, so with you being further south I would say you need to set around 55 degrees of Elevation angle, the further south the higher the angle..

Really ? thought it was the other way around.
Anyway, why am i having to guess this stupid angle - there must be a calculation that tells me what it should be based on my latitude.
51.3 is probably correct anyway - my arc is just off. i will tinker some more when i get some time.

Yes, satellites themselves are a higher elevation I mean, forgive my ramblings..

You should be able to get a decent arc using your latitude (it's what I use). However I'm sure a33 will be along soon to explain why the 'modified' angles in the attached image are superior :p

ok thanks mate- i think that confirms the angle should be around 51/52 - i think my issue is probably that i rotated whole polar mount when centered and aimed at 1w - peaked. i need to be just off that.

one tip i learned from the SSS vids - is to loosen the bolts on the actuator arm - move the mount 1 degree to the east - and then use the actuator to "steer the dish" through the ARC - and it should then peak at 1w - then i can try other sats.

now i have confirmation on that polar mount main axis - i can leave that alone, and just concentrate on dish angle (declination) - but i have a setting labelled for that so should be straight forward.

my annoying sat meter is annoying as you have to choose REGION - so it has 1w - 90w as one region, and 1e - 90e - i have to change when testing arc....makes it a slow and cumbersome process.

H-H motors seem far simpler, lol - u still got that 1224 ? how much...
