Just had this email from Sainsbury's -

"Dear Mr David ----,
We understand from our records that you have recently purchased JS Classic Liver & Bacon with Mash 450G
The safety of our customers is extremely important to us and we have been made aware of the possible presence of tiny metal pieces in a small number of potato-containing chilled ready meals.

As soon as we became aware, we removed the products from sale and started the process of letting our customers know. We've posted signage instore and have sent this email to affected customers, as soon as we possibly could.
As a precautionary measure, and in the interest of customer safety, we are recalling all potato-containing chilled ready meal lines produced by this supplier. A full list of products, along with information on the dates affected and some frequently asked questions, can be found on our Help Centre at help.sainsburys.co.uk.
We would kindly ask that you dispose of the product and please be advised that we have credited your Nectar account for the value of the items purchased. They will appear on your account within 5 days.
No other products are affected by this issue, and we apologise for the inconvenience caused. If you have any further concerns please call our Careline on 08000 52 55 00.

Yours sincerely

Ray Biggs
Head of Customer Service
Sainsbury's Supermarket LTD"

That was a near miss - I was contemplating having that for din-dins tonight, but decided on fish and chips instead, before receiving that email :-ohcrap

Close call. If it were me I'd take a very close look at the mash before throwing it away. Maybe with a magnet in case they're magnetic metal pieces.

It's down the waste disposal now Paul. Would have been interesting to do that no doubt.

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Just goes to show, it's safer to cook your own from scratch than to trust a ready meal that could contain anything, from metal fragments to bits of dead animals that shouldn't be in there (from mouse to horse)...:-rofl2

In a perfect world, yes. I much prefer a properly prepared and cooked meal, but there are times when I need to forsake the cook's apron for convenience.

Avoid Cod and choose Haddock instead - got to watch out for that Mercury content!

Actually, just have a couple of Rusks. It's safer

Then it's surely time to think of building a a dry closet as well - much more eco friendly and doesn't use vast quantities of (now) expensive water.

You DO need a ready supply of sawdust though...

There's soaps available for that problem... o_O

Thank you for such an informative website which has aided me and my skin on the road to recovery. I’ve had the ribo rash permanently on my eyelids and back of my neck for approximately 3 years and have found it to be the flavouring in crisps that cause me to itch and have unsightly red skin.

I had never considered that this issue might have been food-related as there had been lots of other things going on in my life at the time, such as going on the contraceptive pill for the first time ever, being surrounded by cats for the first time in years etc.

It was only after not eating crisps for approximately one week, (not intentionally – just hadn’t been shopping) that I noticed my skin had improved and that I was less itchy, but when I ate a bag of cheesy wotsits not long after, my eyes started to itch like mad and the red inflamed skin started to re-appear.
