Hi friends ..
Not sure if this is just a local thing to me but would appreciate some feedback...
I'm uploading 3 crazyscan caps ..
One at 10East ...where the signal peak at 3451 H is large and present ....and is still there approx 50 clicks of the Vbox Eastward ...(plus constellation just captured) where there are no C band broadcasts/sats ...but the peak has almost doubled ??
I can't get any analysis of this but is certainly real ...
Could it be from Eutelsat W3C ?
Does this bird carry Cband transponders ?
Or is it perhaps a huge local signal to me produced by a wifi/phone mast ?
If its the latter ..it may well be the reason I have trouble east of 3 deg in C band ...
If not ...then what is it ..
cheers m8's

It could be the new Arabsat-5C C-band satellite. It is supposed to go to 20 East, but according the last TLE a week ago it was at 16 East travelling West. Since then no new TLE data, so it's unclear where it is right now.

No C-band on W3C:

From the Eutel site - W3C page:

Through its configuration of 53 Ku and three Ka transponders

Thanks for your input m8s ...
Just got in from work ...and its still there and looming as large as ever ..though the constellation looks a little different ..
Also ..interestingly its companion peak @ 3530 has grown and is now as large as the original mystery peak..

Can anyone else 'see' this double humped mystery ?
it would at least confirm it has its origins in space ...and not terrestrial

Hello VS,

I can confirm these peaks from 11.5°E Intelsat 603. You can check my posts @dishworld.de from August 2011.

Best Regards
qwer.

Thanks for the info Edgar ...
Bit of a Vbox miscalculation on my part ...a good few degees out ...but..
At least I know I'm not imagining it now ..
All news to me ...as I didn't even know there was an active bird at 11.5 East ...
certainly not listed at Lyngsat ..
cheers again Edgar ...for curing my curiosity.

Intelsat 603? Isn't that the one that used to be at 20w for the SIS horse racing feeds?

The one that was rescued by the space shuttle?

It is indeed Nano ....
..and looks like its functioning in some capacity ...

Just pulled this from wiki...

>>

Intelsat 603Intelsat 603 was launched by a Commercial Titan III on 14 March 1990. The separation of the upper (second) stage from the satellite failed.[3] This left the satellite and the upper stage attached to each other, and Intelsat was unable to fire the perigee motor to boost the satellite to its higher orbit. Intelsat flight controllers jettisoned the perigee motor which detached the satellite from the Titan upper stage. However without the perigee motor the satellite could not be boosted to its nominal geostationary orbit. The on-board propulsion system was used to move the satellite into a slightly higher stable orbit.

Intelsat arranged for a rescue of 603 by the US Space Shuttle. STS-49 was launched on May 7, 1992, 7:40 p.m. EDT. Three of the shuttle astronauts successfully captured the satellite by hand on May 14, 1992, after several failed attempts using a capture bar. After being secured in the shuttle cargo bay, a new perigee kick motor was installed. Intelsat 603 was released from the shuttle and the perigee kick motor was successfully ignited and 603 was placed into the proper geostationary orbit.

That must have been back in the good old days of the sathelp forum before we lost it to TW.
