Ive been left in somewhat of a predicament by our Aerial Guy, I am an AV installer for a large company in the north of england, I wall mount TV's install audio systems etc..
On our latest job the customer wanted 6 Sky HD Boxes, 8 TV's, audio system.. OK so i can do the TV's and audio but we contracted out the sky part to a Aerial co. that we have used before and has been generally good in the past but on this job he has basically done a runner before the job is complete and there are problems that need addressing, looks like ive been landed with it. Today I got another firm out who basically wont touch it with a barge pole :(.

So the sky install is as follows,
80cm Dish
Quattro LNB
Triax 12 output Multiswitch
Aerials are done via a seperate loftbox.
All of the Sky boxes where bought from the same supplier from the same batch and the supplier does tell us that he has had no problems with other boxes from the same batch.
All boxes are Samsung

3 Sky boxes have been installed in the loft
3 are installed in various cupboards around the house (close to their respective TV's)
Long HDMI's have been run from the Sky box to the TV with a Coax from RF2 and a Sky Eye.

The main problem is that ALL of the boxes are intermittantly locking up, im told by the customer that it happens every day sometimes once sometimes twice. I have made several visits and have witnessed several lockups myself.
Two of the boxes locked up identically to each other with in a short space of time, basically the EPG worked fine, the sound worked fine but the picture weather it be full screen or in the mini window (with epg on screen) was just blue, no pic at all.
Other boxes have appeared to be ok but then fail to respond to a R/C signal from either the sky eye or directly, also the buttons on the box stop working.
To fix this the box needs to be unplugged and re powered in the usual sky way.

I have been told by our box supplier that due to the nature of the fault it is more likely to be a faulty multiswich or LNB than all of the boxes and to be honest he could be right.
Personally I havent done a multiswitch install myself I usualy contract it out as I normally have plenty to do without getting involve is the sky install too, so ..

Is there a setup procedure to follow with a multiswitch? or do they just work once connected up properly? (I have checked ALL F connectors and re-checked them again)

Is it likely that a dodgy multiswich could cause boxes to lock up? Signal strength and quality on all boxes is above 90% , some are 100%, could the signal be too strong?

Do i need to give you any more info to be able to make a diagnosis?

Hope someone can help me,

Cheers Casey

Not really something which can be solved on the forum and this section is really for hobby/DIY projects.

The one thing which may help, is to do a forced update on all of the boxes, this is supposed to be done on installation, but if it isn't done and the box software is too old, then can cause lockups.

Other than that, you need to get someone in with a decent analyser to have a look.

Yes, you need someone with a decent analyser who can set the signal levels properly and then work your way from that.
