hi,

I have the above satellite reciever, I am able to get free to air channels but there are alot of scrambled channels.

I read the user guide for the reciever and it says i need a cam and smart card to unlock the scrambled channels.

As i am a newbie i need your help to give me info on
what kind of cam i should buy?
what kind of smart card should i buy?
would these unscramble all of the scrambled channels or just some?
if i update my reciever using the cable to connect to a pc, would it unlock any channels or there is a possibility i might mess up the reciever?

I live in uk and mainly i want watch channels such as cartoon network, HBO, zee tv, etc.
btw the satellite is pointed to hotbird 13 e
your help would be appreciated.

thank you

Two choices here, both require a basic level of understanding about encryptions and how to flash/ program a cam or an stb.

You basically have two choices, one is to use the darkman patch and flash your receiver thus allowing you to watch programs using the on board emulator.

The second method is to buy a Dragon/Trex cam and program that to do the same the former is cheaper but carries a risk you may trash your receiver, the second method is more expensive but carries less risk.

What confuses me is that you say you already watch
channels such as cartoon network, HBO, zee tv, etc. btw the satellite is pointed to hotbird 13 e
How are you doing that if you have not already patched your stb?

Hello hieveryone,
I don't think the Technomate 1000D has a CI slot, so cannot take a CAM like the Dragon Cam, the Technomate 1000CI has but costs about £20 more. Unless you have a receiver with a CI slot you will have to stick to patching your receiver.
Please post back with more details about your receiver confirming the specifications.
Best wishes

Hi hieveryone,
yes you can still patch the receiver you just can't use an external Cam. I think you need a null modem cable for the Technomate, but check first with other Technomate owners, these cables are very cheap, and patching is very quick and simple.
Best wishes
