hi all
this been my first post im not sure if its in the right section,im sure the mods will move it to the right place thx in advance
here goes
what i want to do is get rid of my sky tv setup as im a bit pee'd of paying 50 pound a month
so im looking for a setup that will give me pretty much what sky is giving plus any other channels that the various satellites broadcast
so do i go for a multi lnb setup or a dish with a motor
ive been looking at some online stores but theres so much out there its unbelievable, ive found these

would the reciever be ok for what i want as there is no card slot on
should i go for a receiver thats got a card slot?
i will be wanting to watch the english premeir games if i can get them
not bothered if i have to buy a card for the footy as it cant be as pricey as sky can it?
looking at a budget of about 300 pounds for the equipment

regards
steve

Hello and welcome to the forum steve-h

I have no wish to burst your bubble, however you will neither get premeirship footy free nor cheap. There is loads of information as to what is and isn't avaialble in the sport forum on this board. I do not get involved in watching footy so cannot advise but I know £300 is not really going to cut the mustard for a system and subscription to what you desire

Yes, I'm afraid £300 will barely cover the equipment needed for a motorised dish setup, with no Premier football games either. The cheapest way is to stay with Sky unfortunately.
Sky Italia is a contender i believe, but uk sourced subs for that are about a grand per year, but you get 3pm kick offs.

There's not a huge amount of FTA English channels on 'other satellites', but there are a few. Get a Gibertini 1m, and you should be able to pull-in the MBC channels on 26e, I mostly watch those. Besides that there is often English language on some foreign stations, you just have to go looking for it. TRT on 42E for example, also I think there are some on 9E. Good sources of channel info are lyngsat, flysat and kingofsat.

If you could get what Sly were offering for cheaper, then every man and his dog would be doing it.

No such thing as a free lunch.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

That's not entirely true, the complexity of a steerable system is outside the bounds of your average installer, plus the location of a motorised dish is rather more critical to getting the maximum number of channels. A lot of residences are simply not suitable for a dish that tracks more than a few satellites.

If BSkyB offered month by month Sports only packages, even I might be tempted - but it will never happen.

They do - its about a pound cheaper then the cost with the entertainment pack! Its the cost of the sports pack plus a none optional 15 or 16 quid charge

Ah, yes - I do recall they were obliged to offer such a facility: But of course it has been done in true Murdoch fashion of paying lip-service and still coining in the cash.

I should have qualified my wishlist with "at reasonable cost"! :-rofl2
