Hi,

I am looking for advice regarding a setup for my sons pc up in his bedroom. I had previously installed a dvb-c setup but that is now broken ;)

I was thinking of putting his old dvb-t card back in so he can watch freeview channels but I have also thought about getting a Skystar 2 HD card and connecting that to our current Sky dish.

What can I expect in terms of FTA, FTV or Freesat if connected to our standard dish? I understand I require a viewing card for Sky Freesat? Can I expect anything else extra other than standard FTA?

Are there any guides out there that can assist, I have know knowledge about satellites, names etc so wouldn't have a clue where the current dish is pointing at :S

I have ran a few searches on the site but they seem to have thrown me into more confusion.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bob

A satellite tuner card for a PC with no form of decryption will be able to receive everything available to freesat customers, you don't need a sky viewing card any more...

See what's available:

_http://www.freesat.co.uk/what-you-get/our-channels

You should also be able to receive the FTA channels from here:

_http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/skyuk.html

(the ones with an F in the 'Enc. system' column)

If your current dish is a standard Sky Digital minidish it will be pointing at Astra 2/Eurobird 1 at 28.2 east, the correct satellite for english freesat reception.

The easiest & cheapest thing to do would be buy an old Sky digibox from a bootsale & hook that up.

And when you ask

Can I expect anything else extra other than standard FTA
the answer is no. You can get a handful of extra channels using a freesatfromskycard or an expired subscription card if the box has one with it but there are no freebies
