hello all
got this c,band lnbf from the states from ws international model esx241
which was stated that is could also pickup ku band as well as c,band
did some experiment on Express-AM1 @ 40° East was able to get 5 channels on 3675r
thing is how am i able to get it to get the ku band. and also there seems to be a plate that seems to fit inside the lnbf
which was of ,just sitting in the box.....

my equipment are
spiderbox 7000hd
1.1m triax
superior dark motor 57e to 45w
have also ordered the lnb and scaller kit to fit to dish as lnb holder is to small

As Llew has already posted the ESX241 is C band only, the 741 is the dual band model. I can't see anywhere on the WSI site that shows the 241 as being dual band, where was it listed? The plate is required to get the majority of European beamed C band signals as they are circular, search this forum for dielectric plate for lots more info on them. You'll notice two pairs of slots in the throat of the LNB where it locates.

From what i've read there isn't really a happy compromise between the two unless you've got a huge dish. The KU side usually suffers at the expence of the C band side :-doh!

You have the same dish setup as mine. You will have to modify the arm a little for the c band lnb holder, but its just drilling a hole and figuring out how to stop the lnb moving about on the arm :confused

The plastic plate is what is used the change the lnb from L/R hand circular polarity to V/H linear polarity. Unfortunately some sellers list this as dual band instead of dual polarity

Hi Comber ...
Pity its a conical feed ..
This method works very well :-

Post #476 in this thread ...

http://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/c-band-reception-uk-europe/188806-disaster-20.html#post979559

Perhaps you could get inventive ....but cutting holes in your conical feed horn _could_ adversly affect the C band reception ...and at best would be a compromise ..
Certainly as advised already ...don't waste your money on one of those combi C/Ku lnbs ..
They are designed for ..and only really perform on huge dishes 3 mtrs and upwards ...where signal is in abundance..
Better to mount a ku lnb as close to the focus as possible (the siamese method)

no close live in comber lucky think i can get further east maybe 62e raise dish on pole by 3 feet
thanks for the replys ,,did otder the cc/ku band all in postage 40 quid .
also ordered the lnb kit 60mm hole for it it comes with a different ring..like trying out different things
just to see whaty is possible while i have dish at a workable level
got a 6% improvement on cband today at 39e ,,by putting in the dielectric plate got 54% stable that all was able to receive tomorrow another day for tinkering
so wil just keep tinkering till am able to get a bigger dish

joe01 see your in co,down too close to comber by any chance

Hi Comber..
This is where you are going to have real problems ...
Not so much whilst the Dish is low down and accessible ...
But if you raise it up too high ..removing the dielectric plate when neccessary ..ie allowing the ku signals ...which will already be much weaker because you are using a combo lnb .........will be difficult ..

In order to get C band circular which accounts for 90% of the c band birds visible on our section of arc ...the dielectric plate must be fitted.
..but the very action of fitting this plate removes _any_ real chance of receiving ku on such a small dish.
It wouldn't allow much signal even on a 2mtr dish ..
You would have to go over 3mtrs to compensate in any real sense for the loss introduced by the plate.
Cband is _not_ impossible on a TD110 ....just damned difficult ..and the plate _has_ to be fitted to have any chance at all of getting anything other than the Russian transponder at 40East..
..at the risk of repeating myself ...fitting this plate permanently will destroy almost any chance of receiving linear ku ..
nonetheless I wish you luck ..and encourage your endeavours...just be prepared for a few dissappointments.

Hi Comber ..
40 East is the strongest C band source over the UK ...but
You should certainly get a few Cband channels at 5 West ..
But as mentioned you will need the plate fitted ...and the conical feed ..
You will have more chance with your current LNB ..than with the combo you've ordered..
Please post any results you manage to your thread ...as this encourages others to try ...and get bitten by the Cband bug.
Good hunting

to switch between the lnbs..
the question is which way do i connect the motor to the diseqc swithce to move dish ..
am i bit confused on this one.....

The simple answer is yes ..
A diseqc switch would work just fine to switch between the lnbs..
The problems you might face are receiver dependent ..
Some receivers dont like to operate a motor (diseqc 1.3) through a switch (diseqc 1.0)
Some don't like to operate a switch placed after the motor ...ie between the motor and lnb ..
If your receiver allows both diseqc switch _and_usals motor control to be operational in the receivers menu stracture ..at the same time ..then you are in with a shot ..
If not ...then it gets tricky and complicated.
Experimentation is the only way ..
You can try Switch > Motor (on port1) > LNB 1
and LNB2 on Switch port 2....this would require pre positioning the motor by selecting port 1 ..then switch to port 2

Or preferably ..assuming the receiver allows it ...

Receiver > Motor > Diseqc Switch > LNBs on ports 1 and 2 ..
This allows the receiver to send a stacked command (if supported) to move the motor ...then pass a switch contol command to select the relevant LNB on the diseqc 1.0 switch.
But it all depends on what your receiver allows ..and the only way to find out ....More experiment ..
;)
Good luck
