howdy, I know little or nothing here so please be gentle, appreciate this has probably been done 100 times but I'm in a hurry, sorry

I've bought a used Panasonic yadayada 30 as recomended by a mate

I've ordered a second SKY card on my existing account here in the UK, full package

If I activate the card in the Panasonic box on my home line, will I then be able to cart the box and card off to France to work there with a local bought dish?

if not, what's my best route, full would be nice but basic would do

thank-you

If you are benefitting from a subsidised mirror subscription, then technically the receiver needs to be permanently connected to the same phone line as the primary subscription. People have got away with periodically bringing the overseas box back to the UK and doing a callback in the new installation menu though.

if this doesn't work, what would you recomend as the next option to try?

am I going to have to buy an unsubsidised box from somewhere and a full card from somewhere else?

thank-you for your reply

The box is not the important factor, it is the phone connection. If Sky determine that the phone line is not connected on the second box, they will write to you or phone you and advise that you plug it in, failure to do that will result in them charging full whack for the second sub but you will still have your French Sky reception. :)

So your existing box should be fine.

gotcha, so the worse that will happen is I cop full whack for the second card in France? That's almost all I can reasonably hope for really isn't it? Effectively a second installation?

No nonsense with fines or contract termination etc etc?

Thanks again

No problem, nobody as far as I know has been switched off, but of course they need to think that the receiver is in the UK and not in France. ;)

I believe you'll probably get 3 warnings about the phone connection and then you'll have to pay full whack for both subs. Personally, I don't see you having anything to lose and you're simply playing the system knowing that you'll lose at some point.

Report back how much you've saved when they bill you full for both :)
