single sat multiswitch, 4 receivers

hi all

I think I grasp the idea of a single satellite, with quatro lnb and multiswitch leading to the receivers. My problem is the settings on the receiver (I think). I am getting a 'no signal' found problem when connecting it all up. The satellite position is ok, because I set it up initially using a single lnb straight to the reciever - works fine.

Do I need to manually set any settings on the receiver to make it happen (currently set to 'universal lnb' with the following settings:

lnb low freq 9750
lnb high freq 10600

my multiswitch has the following:

lncA 18v/22khz
lncB 13v/22khz
lncC 18v/0khz
lncD 13v/0khz

I have tried every combination from the quatro lnb which has the following settings:

VH
VL
HH
HL

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I have tried every cable in every combination on the multiswitch just in case I mixed them up.

Thanks in advance

Tony

Which satellite and what type of receivers are you using?

A quatro LNB will only work if the outputs are connected to the correct inputs on the multiswitch. So depending on what receivers you are using, find a channel on a certain polarity and connect that direct to the down cable, bypassing the switch.

the whole system is a cheapy from B&Q. The brand name is 'Ross'.

So if I connect straight to the receiver, do I need to change a setting? I don't understand 'polarity' - I'm new at this.

Thanks

Best upload some photos, or at least give us some links to the kit, disable them by placing an underscore hefore the HTTP.

Can you clarifty EXACTLY what you are trying to do because this doesnt make much sense

Where does the multiswitch come into it???? ANd are you actually using a quattro lnb or a quad (4 outlet univeral). The two are very different and will cause no end of confusion if we get the wrong one!

Are you setting up your own distribution system (in which case it will be a quattro & multiswitch) or trying to set up two individual lnb's (in which case it will be a disecq switch with universal lnb's)

It might seem confusing but it isnt honest!

ok

the details on the quatro lnb are:

I/P frequency 10.7~12.75Ghz
O/P Frequency 950-2150Mhz
Noise figure 0.1dB
L.O Frequency 9.75/10.6 Ghz
Low phase noise(typ) -70dBc/Hz@1KHz
-90dBc/Hz@10Khz
-105dBc/Hz@100KHz
Gain 60dB (tYP)
Output 2.0:1
Image rejection 45dB(min)

Given the info already stated on the receiver, do you think i need to change any settings?

Thanks

I have a quatro lnb.

I have a multiswitch and want to connect to a number of receivers.

the 4 cables are going from the LNB to the multiswitch and then there is currently one output going to a receiver. It is giving me a 'no signal' message.

The satellite is pointing in the right direction - I tested it using a single lnb direct to the receiver.

I think the problem may be the settings for the 'antenna' on my receiver - I've just posted the details of the quatro lnb

thanks

Your "Antenna" settings for each receiver should be simple, as the quattro/multiswitch distribution system is seen by each receiver merely as a single dish/LNB.

So you need to ensure that LNB Type "Universal" or "Universal 1" or "Universal 9750/10600" (whatever syntax your Ross boxes uses) is selected and LNB power is "On".

That's it.

If that doesn't work (and I see from an earlier Post it was actually set to Universal), then do as Rolf suggested and bypass the multiswitch again to prove basic cable continuity and correct function.

The point is, if you've wired up and powered up the multiswitch correctly, and the receiver works ok when connected directly to one port of the quattro (with a Channel of the correct Polarity and Band selected), then is it should work for all four polarity/band combos when connected to the multiswitch.

Edit: You have emphasised it's a Quattro .............. but what is your evidence for this? A Quad also has four outputs and may look very similar in every respect. The spec. you've Posted could be equally applicable to either a Quattro or a Quad.

I bought a Quatro and it came in a quatro box.

Just a thought, is there a maximum length of cable between the satellite dish and the receiver? Could the length cause signal loss hence lack of signal?

I cant do photos just now as the house is in a mess and I can't find camera

Take the receiver to the multiswitch and plug it in it with a small cable , you can try every output to see if it makes a difference .
Also , you can set to a high , low frequency in the receiver and plug the cable coming from the lnb to see if the switch is faulty/not setup properly .
All the best .
