Had a look in the footprints libary and see Nilesat min dish size for London area is 1.2m.

Question is, is it possible to get this and hotbird off the same 1.2m dish ?

Might be possible, but a 20 degree offset is a lot on a standard dish.

It'll be as cheap with two, as the Hotbird one only needs to be a minidish.

The degree between the tow is very big and makes it impossible for that size of dish in uk even with a dish 1.8

What about the wait for planning permission, if you fit it without permission you are responsible are you not?

Technically it depends on the type of 1.8m dish. Usually these have three arms and installing an LNB for Hotbird would be impeded by the arm. Besides, using a bigger dish will yield more precision as to the position of the LNB and you may get unsatisfactory reception from a 20° offset LNB. I suggest you take rolfw's proposition and set a minidish for Hotbird.

Which channels from Nilesat is he after? As 1.2m is relatively small for that sat. Sure he'll get most of the verticals in fair weather, but the horizontals are going to be very marginal.

not sure will have to double check with him. i was purely going on the footprints maps guide on this forum, which says a 1.2m is sufficent for London area on Nilesat. Is this wrong information then ?

info from here

Hi,

The info is not wrong as such, but it does not give enough information. Yes you would pick up Nilesat with a 1.2m dish in London, but not all transponders reliably(very difficult to get 100% reception anyway). Any hint of rain and even if you did have any horizontals they would be gone, probably the verticals too if it rained a little harder.

There is a large thread in the Fringe reception area discussing 7W, I will try and find the link.

my advice is to see what channel he is after couse most of the channels on nilesat you can receve on badr and those are not you cant receve any way
than i think the best thing to do is get badr and hotbird in one dish which is very easy to do

sorted this in the end, the channels the customer was after were all on arabsat at 26 degs east. so there excisting 90cm dish should do the job ok. thanks for the info on this one guys.
