My sky system is giving me trouble, it runs fine for 5 minutes then goes off for 10 - 15 seconds displaying the message 'no satellite signal being received', then comes back on again etc, it is driving me potty........'O'-red
I have checked lnb cables re-booted Sony stb, cleaned the card and chip, which I have to say looks somewhat cooked

Done all that before posting the signal strength and quali are both OK and I had already done a software update, despite the worry that if it was an lnb problem I may end up with half a download. It seems strange that half an hour after I posted the problem completely disappeared without me doing anything, but thanks for your reply.

Half a download should not be terminal as it is cached and then parity checked before being allowed to overwrite what is already in use.

Not that that glimmer of hope actually help you, I'm afraid.

I'd see if the problem also occurs on a FTA channel Topper.

Given its age have you checked the caps in the PSU for drying out/bursting?

That box is almost antique, probably time to be looking at a modern one.;)

Still one of the better boxes of their time. Didn't they have an s-video out?

Sony boxes didn´t have very sensitive tuners when new, your one must be coming up for 10 years old. As Tivu said your power supply could be dying - theres not much air room in those boxes.

Satelliteman, the big sellling point of those boxes was the Sony name, slim design and digital audio out (not seen again until Sky+)

I used to have one. It looked very elegant but was the poorest box of all the ones I had. It regularly used to crash. Eventually I gave it to my Mum to connect to her Hi-Fi to listen to "Classic FM". Last year it gave up and we binned it.

Well that is interesting, I have had no trouble whatsoever with this stb, most reliable piece of kit I have ever had and yes it is 10 years and 6 months since it was installed to replace the Amstrad which hardly worked at all and completely failed after 3 weeks and the Sony was all that he had on his van. Was a bit peeved at the time as the slot in the stone fireplace was not wide enough for the Sony. It actually has optical audio out, it was that far advanced for its time......,but no need to change anything at the moment as it has not happened since that crazy hour.
