On BBC1 now, and iPlayer later.

Excessively large amounts of money going to the corrupt

Was it REALLY in the public interest to broadcast it a few days before the vote?

Well we still live in a free speech democracy and it would perhaps have even more outrageous if some back-scratching of our own were to have taken place to prevent it.

Surely the BBC could have broadcasted the program weeks ago or in a few weeks time?

Why ?

Each country with a team has paid into FIFA, not only the individual associations, but the public that cough up for 'official' paraphenalia, which must be near a maximum in the run up to Christmas.

The more people that see the level of payouts the better, it's a pity that access to iPlayer is restricted to the UK, however a quick search of some other sites brings up the programme accessable by those in other areas

They are a journalistic organisation (for this purpose) not either an arm of Government or a part of the bid team, so are perfectly within their rights to be unaffected by potential external influence and to act independently and impartially. That is fundamental in Democracy.

It's my understanding that they broadcast as soon as due diligence was completed, so it couldn't have been done earlier. As for delaying it .......... well that would mean loss of impartiality and/or acquiescence to undemocratic pressure.

Do you want to live in a quasi-dictatorship?

I'm not saying this isn't a democracy and they have every right to broadcast it, but it's not in the public interest when the majority want a successful bid...

Well first of all the statement that a majority want a successful bid is hugely debatable, secondly whether or not the issue might have any effect is hugely debatable and thirdly the bid is not the only matter of public interest here.

You have made statements of apparent fact which are not proven and (understandably) support your own view. There are other views.

Not to mention the waste of the moneys of tax payers from a number of countries, including those making bids.

Not in the public interest ? The public that forks out for games, magazines and actual strips for offspring that become obselete whilst on the shelves and often before the season ends. The frequency, timescale and exhorbitant pricing of strips being dictated by those taking the bribes ?

Not that it wasn't already news either.

Yup. Fans deserve a lot better.

Apropos of not much:

Football is a game for gentlemen played by hooligans

Rugby is a game for hooligans played by gentlemen

The money that is being forked out to launch a bid that will probably not now win?

Don't worry, the players will spend any leftover money on stuff they put up their noses to improve their breathing and overall aerobic fitness. They could run up mountains on that stuff.

Well you seem to have made your mind up, but perhaps you aren't trusting the selection process to be fair, professional and above board? Surely the selection Committee is not going to demonstrate the shallowness that being unduly influenced by Panorama would demonstrate, particularly when the eyes of the world are on it?

I imagine there are some who might argue that they may react the other way and set more store by the English bid in an effort to be seen to be scrupulously fair.

The 2nd point is exactly what my dad thought may happen.

I've not made my mind up just yet, I just feel it's put a dent in the bid, I don't mind if we don't get it but FIFA is corrupt and poorly ran which I think needs to change, just if they vote with this program in mind it's really not fair.

Well I do understand your concerns, but take heart from the fact that Engerland are now Bookies favourites (which may be the kiss of death, of course!) as of a few hours ago.

PS: I hope your comment about corruption doesn't adversely affect the bid !!!

'Alleged' corruption Tivu. So far these bungs haven't been up before a court, nor have the individuals involved felt a noose.

Exactly so - unproven: Which was the reason for referring to the bald statement by the previous Poster. These are claims, not facts.

Just caught the final grovelling in Zurich.

Thumbs up for Mr Afekafe, his speech was rather good.

Harry appearing on the screen though was a bit of a faux-pas
