Hi friends ...
My cheepy LNB arrived this morning ...but I'm a little confused ?

The LNB is H/V switched ...and Im not expecting miracles from it ...but the majority of C band transponders in the receivable in the UK are circular R/L ...
Should I have also received a dialectric plate in the throat of the lnb to make reception possible ?

If so then it looks like it was a waste of money ...and my first trip to C-band will be somewhat delayed.

Is there any 'household' material I can cut a slice of to substitute for the missing plate ?
any info would be appreciated.

Most of the signal from a circular polarised signal will be received, the real problems come when there are two transponders near in frequency on opposite polarities.

The plastic used in the trade paint tubs is I believe suitable for making a dielectric plate out of.

Thanks for the speedy reply m8..
I've just discovered during my 'hunt' around the house ..that the non stick chopping board in the kitchen is just the right thickness for the guides ;)...
I just hope its the right sort of material ..
Opaque Polythene or somesuch ..
..either way ..its going to be about 2 inches shorter by the end of the day ..
lol

..btw Channel Hopper ...
Do you know which is likely to be the strongest set of channels receivable in the uk ..on C-Band and which bird I should try first for alignment purposes.

..I also have to work out how to use dvbviewer with a cband lnb ...as I don't have any up-to-date transbonder .ini files.

Hello!
the strongest cband signals in europe are on the telecom satellite on 8 west, and on 40,5 west the encrypted programm RCN TV is the strongest transponder!
also very strong is the View Asia Transponder on Intelsat 10 on 68,5 east!
the express satellite,in the east, should be also strong enough,to finding a satellite!
for better singnal, replace, your dilektrikum plate, with tevlon material, that you cuttet before,in the same size, then your old plate, tevlon looks like a clear disc!

..Good news so far ...
I had to remove the whole mount assembly from my 1.8 m dish as the lnb body is too wide to fit in the bracket ..
The Pauxis is currently suspended between the tripod legs by long cable ties ....but I have managed to pull in unbroken pictures from DWTV Africa (3727 R) on my Humax HDCI 2000 with the built in signalmeter showing 59%...
A bit of a lash up but ..at least it proves its possible..

..I still haven't worked out why I cannot get the same channels on my Twinhan pci card and dvbviewer ??

..still..its a start..

...Hi m8's

A progress report on my refurb..
By careful manipulation of the Pauxis I've so far had signals from
1 West
5 West
27 West
and 40 West

...my main problem is that I've removed the origional LNB mount boss from the tripod ...as its too narrow to use with the Pauxis...
..or indeed any c band fitting.
To that end I've cut a new mount boss out of 3mm thick aluminium ..
So far its nothing more than a flat 3 legged spider with an lnb sized hole at the centre..and will require some bending and shaping to fit it.
My tripod is made of solid carbon fibre 15mm round rods which just clamp to the origional boss with mini u-bolts ...and theres no facility to screw anything at the focal point ends.
Luckily ..with the rods being 15mm ...some 15mm copper water pipe clips should provide a solution.

.. my friends think I'm mental to go to all this trouble ..but what can you do if your unidentifiable 20+ year old dish needs parts ..
...well you just gotta make 'em.

c'est la vie

my echostar 2.40 m mesh dish, that you see on the avatar picture!

i have 2 panorma 13 kelvin, and it was very intresting, that both lnbs from the same modell type ER-861.does not have, the exactly the same performance, one was better then the other !

the better one, that i use now, has a strange lof drift of 2 mhz,i have to set the lof now to 5148,to get correct orginal freqency!
other people confirmed my,that every panorma lnb,has a little drift, some of 5 mhz and more!
this,i see first time only on this brand!

..Well I've finished my feed boss construction ...though I might take it down and give it a coat of paint at weekend..

I started with a flat square of aluminium ...and turned it into a thing of beauty ...at least it is to me ..

The lnb support collar and clamp is made from cut and shaped strips of tin plate ....and the clamps attatching the boss to the carbon fibre tripod are 15mm water pipe clamps.

here are some pictures to go with it ...the last one shows the pauxis lnbf mounted..
