Took me a few years but I managed to get hold of Four Score on vinyl, so of course had to get a turntable, so, I did, a Pioneer PL-300 Direct Drive with an Audio Technica AT95 cartridge... :D

Plays nicely, even though I haven't got a proper pre-amp for the turntable as yet (using a cheap Kemo M055 stereo amp module that's not meant to be used as a pre-amp, but it works, oddly enough!!), and the record itself is in good shape, I just need a bit more space on my desk to play with it all properly and make some recordings... :D

Thanks, I also have a Foreigner promo album too (12" 45rpm), I'm guessing there's not many of those available as it was not meant for general sale:

http://www.discogs.com/release/4889273

That site has all kinds of music available, it's where I found Four Score, still perusing through the albums on there trying to decide what to buy, I have a 7" Foreigner 45 on the way too, apparently in Mint condition but only sold for £1... :D

I'm only just getting into vinyl, I've heard a lot of digitised tracks recorded from vinyl, but, the difference between an MP3 and the real thing is just not describable, if that's even a word...:-rofl2

Well vynil is analogue so offers a "warmer" sound. Even though I am hard of hearing, I do notice the difference. Along with snap, crackle and pop!

We dug our (my!) old Sony stack system out of storage just before Christmas and set it up. The first LP (look it up kids) that I played was Phaedra by Tangerine Dream which is probably the first time in at least 20 years since it was last played by me. I also dug out my copy of the music fom 2001: A Space Odyssey and then a stack of others seldom heard.

I then started buying up some old LPs as well. I started with Wings over America which I had years ago but never got back after lending it out once too often. Then I went obscure and found a copy of Afraid of Mice's eponymous debut LP and the even rarer official bootleg second LP. I eventually found a copy of Street to Street at the right price and am currently hunting down Vol II of that - at the right price of course.

BUT I haven't been able to place any of the last nemed albums as, would you believe it, the needle has dropped out of the cartridge! Wife, bless'er, saved the needle but I haven't found the time to pull the stack out into decent light to see if it's put-backable.

Do you always look back with regret?.....Having sold my collection of vinyl (or vynil if you like) LP's around 1990 to fund the purchase of CD's, I do. I got the princely sum of £1 each so ended up with about £150. Sure it got me some cd's but I had a pristine Sergeant Peppers complete with all the additional carboard bits and other obscure ones that were really well cared for. I had a green see through pressing of one LP, though it escapes me who the band were.

Well this is my old "gramophone"...

Spent my childhood on it back in the 80's and early 90's. It had a brilliant built in amp (10W RMS no less!) and I used it to pump a cassette player through it. Still have it at my granddad's in Russia, though it's largely non-functional now.

And for those puzzled souls who are wondering wtf is fourscore?!

Its the old Channels 4 theme music :D

David Dundas kept the copyright to the four note ident sting - and every month C4 had to send him a very big royalty cheque! :D

I did have The Beatles red and blue 12" LPs way back when but I can't remember what happened to them (they where both in mint condition with tidy covers) and I've got a big stack of s_x Pistols 12" LPs I inherited from an uncle who was into them back in the day.
I should also have a load of happy hardcore rave somewhere in storage too from when I owned a pair of Technics 1210 mk2 turntables (I left them with an ex when we split up, which was odd seeing as the turntables where worth a hell of a lot more than the rave records ever will be).

You mean the "Channel Four Television" and the old Channel 4 logo on the sleeve weren't clues enough? :-rofl2

Just buy a new cartridge if they're still available, most brands have at least got some "to-fit" versions available, though if it's a P-mount, er, good luck... :-rofl2

Looking at my AT95 cartridge, the needle sticks into a rubber mount, so if yours has perished, then it's likely that it's not salvageable, plus if you stick it in the wrong way it'll not track properly, or you lose the stereo sound, or worst case, damage the records... o_O
