I hope this is the right section. I have noticed recently on our plasma TV sort of smokey smears behind the screen. It can only be seen when the picture has a light background ie white/blue colouring. Is there any way of cleaning this ie air blast it out through vents if it is dust. Now I have noticed it , it is becoming a pain as I keep looking at it and not what is on TV. Any help will be appreciated.

Does the plasma use fans internally ..some models do ?
Does anyone in the house smoke ?
I have had cloudy patches on plasma screens before ..where the internal fans have drawn cig fumes and or other substances from cooking etc into to the layer between the front layer of protective glass and the plasma screens glass ..
The only way to fix was to seperate the two layers and clean ..
A 2 man job minimum ..
Not always 100% effective ..
plus you run risks like ..cracking the screen (very heavy) ...and damaging the thin polarising chemical layer often on the inside of the glass ..
resulting in streaks which if not done correctly looks worse than the original patches.

If its a magnificent / fantastic Pioneer Kuro Plasma..? ...........Viperscan's great advice won't work.......as Pioneer use a special bonded Plasma screen.....
If its a Panasonic plasma ......it will be worth having a go at repairing/ cleaning.........

If its a cheap rubbish / crap Tv from LG....or ....Samsung .......don't bother........chuck it in the bin..............Spend a bit more money next time ........And get a good Plasma Tv............

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

You need to rebalance the dilithium matrix to get a stable matter/anti-matter reaction to form a pure plasma flow, oh, wait, that's warp plasma, not telly plasma... :-doh

That sounds exactly what it is. No smoking in the house but we used to have a really big traditional bonfire fire place which on occasion did smoke a bit. Come to think of it it appeared in the winter months. I have since removed this and installed a log burner. There is no internal fan that I can hear. It is a philips TV and pretty good for sound and picture although getting a bit old now. I suppose to access inbetween the plasma screen and front screen everything is done through the back as this is where all the screws are. What would you advise cleaning it with. We have screen cleaner for the outside screen or perhaps it may only need dusting off. Must appreciated the info (just remembered how heavy it is!!)

I suspect you have your answer ..
Smoke fumes from the fire place ..
between the layers ..
As to cleaning..
NO chemicals or specialised sprays ..
Nothing abrasive..
gentle action only with a sponge and luke warm water and liquid soap is all I used ...
Dusting with a paintbrush and a hoover held inches above the glass surface ..
ALL tiny specs have to be removed before reassembly ...
BUT in truth ..I don't recommend a novice in electronics to attempt this as just about every panel has to be removed ..and the set fully disassembled...
screen panel tabs tear easily so not for kak handed folk ..
Minimum of 2 people to lift the screen ..
Not a job for just anyone .. I advise you not to attempt unless you know what you are doing ..
There ARE risks ..
I never attempted this job even on a 42 inch plasma for less than £150 ...so it gives you an idea of difficulty/risk and complexity.
