Europe's top leagues reject Uefa president Michel Platini's plans to change the rules for Champions League qualification.

The European Professional Football Leagues (EPFL) have dismissed Platini's proposal to have cup winners qualify automatically for the Champions League.

The EPFL also rejected Platini's attempt to boost the role of smaller nations in the tournament.

The EPFL represents the likes of the English Premier League, the German Bundesliga and Spain's La Liga.

Platini wanted Europe's top leagues to have three rather than four representatives in the Champions League, with the proposed changes to come into force until the 2009-10 season.
