hello boys,

I'm badly in need of some help.

My dad has a single lnb satellite set up. We had our tv in the living room connected to the echostar receiver and then we had a coaxial cable running to my room connected to my tv. With this setup we were able to watch the same satellite channel on both tvs.

Now my dad has bought a new fta receiver, the silvercrest sl35 _http://www.mysilvercrest.de/en/artikel.php?a=106

It's much more better and easy to use than the old echostar receiver, so I changed receivers. The problem is that now we are unable to watch satellite tv in my room.

I have connected the wire through my tv to the IF out on the silvercrest. There are no other connections available. On the manual it says that the IF out should be used to connect another receiver - this got me confused :confused:confused

What can I do to be able to watch the same sat channel in my room? Can I connect the old echostar receiver to the silvercrest via IF out?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Well yes you should be able to use the loopthrough and do what you suggest but first it must be satellite cable not indoor aerial cable, second you will be able to have channels on the same polairity as the main unit so if it is set for a horizontal channel you will be able to receive any of th horizontal channels on the 2nd stb. The best way is to buy a quad lnb and feed that to the second receiver that way they would both operate independantly of each other.

hey topper,

thanks for your reply.

At the moment we do not need dual or quad lnbs. Basically my father would like to be able to watch sat tv in my room when my mum is watching on cable in the living room.

I could connect the silverscrest directly to my tv, but then he won't be able to watch sat tv in the living room when mum is not around.

I'm a noob in these things and that's why I got confused. So I should be able to connect both receivers together and be able to watch the same channels on both tvs? How will the set up work? I don't want to connect the two together and fry them up or something.

By the way I'm using sat cable.

Cheers

Yes, it should work using the loopthrough, i.e the IF out. As long as both receivers are on the same polarity and band.

If you can't get it to work, maybe something is amiss with the receiver/s. I take it you tried them both as the main one.

If it's still a no go, get a twin LNB and run a new cable from the dish.

LNB In :)

Tip: If you put the Silvercrest to standby will allow the Echostar to take full control of the LNB ie select polarity and band to give you access to all channels. Of course you can't then watch owt on the Silvercrest. ie This is a one or the other option. If you do want to use both Receivers at the same time, then the restrictions mentioned in previous posts apply.
