I cant take any credit for these pics - they come from a post on the DS forum but the Sky+ installation is so poor it deserves wider viewing

The guys who did this installation in Basildon must have parked their horses outside and worn cowboy hats...

What makes matters worse is that it was for an elderly lady.

The installation description says they also broke bricks with careless drilling, and only used 3 screws to hold the bracket onto the wall. (And they have drilled into the mortar not the brickwork)

And have a CLOSE look at pic 4.

And the time the drilling started?? 7.20am on a saturday morning!!

How many bad points can you spot? I reckon on at least a dozen for starters.

Crumbs, that's an installation and a half, needs to go on Bill Wright's page of horror stories. :)

I love how they only just missed the power cable for the electric awning when drilling out, ignored the availability of the slide down weatherproof connector cover and particularly the death trap tripwire of the telephone cable. :-lmao

That's pretty much the worst I've seen and I've seen some nasty ones.

I agree, it would be difficult to make an installation that bad, love the white cable cleats as well, just sets off the installation. :-lmao

aaaaghh! That is so ugly.

They must have been in bit of a hurry.

Still, at least it looks like they've used satellite cable, I got ordinary TV coax on mine.

Bad points.. mmm let me see..

1. It looks like sh!t
2. Connectors not waterproofed
3. Bolts in mortar, and only 3 ( I wonder if they bothered with rawlplugs)
4.Cables over the roof, no doubt will flap in the wind
5. Black telephone cable on white skirting.
6. Telephone cable trip hazzard, plus shut in door.

Im on the otherside of the fence with this one.

Whilst i agree its a sh!t install the fact is these installers dont have the time to do the job..

First off sky dont issue roof ties, this is because of tile damage ect.

um um um

bugger it that is apauling, i thought mine was bad when clips wouldnt hold because of crap mortar.. but com'on thats a new build its so easy to make them look neat.. (not saying older houses have the right for crap installs).

Wouldnt suprise me if thats a cobra job lol. no wonder they gone bust.

that is pretty poor effort to be honest i must say, looks rushed.

regarding the drilling into the mortar rather than the brick, i would say that 80% + of all Sky dishes i see installed around my area are done like this, and these have been done by sky installers, i pressumed that providing you used the correct raw plugs & drill eg a tight fit then this shouldnt be an issue on smaller dishes unless you are putting up something alot bigger ?

Its not good practise - mortar has very little structural strngth, and crumbles easily

Doesn't matter what size dish, drilling into the mortar is not recommended and not acceptable. In most cases where I am called in to re-mount a dish, it is because the fixings are in the mortar.

Strange, must be a lag on the server, your post wasn't showing when I started posting my reply above.

Gawd almighty!!! Even I could do a better job than that!!! And I'm terrible for shortcuts!!! :-rofl2

I hope they got their £99 installation fee back for that, aswell as compensation for tripping over the telephone wire!!!
