Alonso lapped his F2012 in 1m 16.265s, 0.365s quicker than Romain Grosjean's Lotus on 1m 16.630, but the times were tight with Sergio Perez next up for Sauber on 1m 16.711s from McLaren's Lewis Hamilton on 1m 16.747s, Williams' Pastor Maldonado on 1m 16.760s and a revitalised Felipe Massa on 1m 16.843s for Ferrari.
