Bad news for Sky Italia subscribers!

The Premier League is pleased to announce that Pitch International has been awarded exclusive audio visual broadcast rights for all 380 Barclays Premier League matches per season for seasons 2013/14-2015/16 in Italy.

Richard Scudamore, the Premier League Chief Executive, said: "We are extremely pleased that Pitch International has chosen to invest in our broadcast rights in Italy. We are confident that they will distribute all the best Barclays Premier League action in a comprehensive and innovative manner to our fans in Italy."

Jonathan Rogers, Pitch International Managing Director, said: "We are delighted to be appointed as the Premier League's licensee in such an important football territory as Italy.

"It is widely acknowledged how important Premier League rights are to broadcasters worldwide and for Pitch to open its account with the Premier League and add it to its growing roster of major clients is another step forward in the company's growth."

I wonder how the games will be shown in Italy as its looking like I will have a redundant sky italia hd box from August.

is there a high percentage of cable subscribers or is sky italia the main pay tv provider ?

Sky Italia is the main provider but has now lost the rights for La Liga, Bundesliga and Premier League.
The only competition is between them and Mediaset Premium who also show Serie A games via DTT.

Pitch International are just brokers arent they? - if so they will sell the rights on to whoever will pay the most.

There are various rumours flying about, 1 is that they will sell the rights back to Sky Italia for a quick profit. Another is that there will be a new channel showing only Premier League as an 'add on' to the Sky Sport package. Another is that Al Jazeera will start a premier League channel of their own in Italy. Interesting times!

The Bundesliga is on it's way back!
A deal has been signed by Sky Italia to show the Bundesliga for the next 2 years.

Good news!!
Fox Sports to bring Premier League football, La Liga, etc. to Italians from this summer! It has yet to be decided if this will be a 'stand alone' channel or be part of Sport or Calcio.

Fox Sports targets Italy + EPL

Fox Sports will launch in Italy this August.

According to its operator Fox International Channels (FIC), which is owned by News International, the new network will broadcast the recently secured Barclays Premier League, Spanish La Liga, French Ligue and FA Cup, as well as a number of news and sports talk shows.

FIC says that this is the latest development in its move into sports over the last two years.
This has already seen Fox Sports launch in Brazil and Japan and FIC both acquire a majority stake in Eredivisie Live in the Netherlands and convert Star-ESPN to Fox Sports throughout South East Asia.
As a result, Fox Sports distribution outside the US has increased from 17 million households in 2010 to over 64 million today.

Interesting I guess this fox sports won't be available on these prepaid cards I've had for last two years and the number of channels they will have to show the games.

Looks like I will have to look around on what else is available.

Fox Sports will be part of the 'Calcio' package and will not cost anything extra! It will be on Channel 205.

Interesting the england - scotland game has english commentary tonight and as always better picture quality than itv hd on the european channels.

just looked in the epg and only 1 3pm game this weekend arsenal v aston villa, was hoping they might have sneaked one on the plus channel but nope showing french ligue 1 at 4pm

But they are showing the Liverpool-Stoke game live as well.

Reports coming in from all over Europe of prepaid Sky Italia cards being blocked during Premier League games being shown on Fox Sports. A message appears on screen in Italian saying the programme is unavailable and the channel only comes back when the PL match ends.
