VS, the whip fiasco is turning the sport sour for racegoers and punters. A well fancied horse gets two or three reminders early on, and the jock has to ration use at the end, with obvious results for the kind of horse that needs a bit of encouragement - it's disinclined to put the effort in and may well have won in a close finish.
Needless to say, I love the sport, and don't want horses coming back with any marks on its flanks, but the modern whip is much better designed to avoid this happening. Just my opinion.
