Hello !I have a very naive question
:after having read Raspberry's wiki, the thing looks basically like a motherboard which you then customise to you desires
How useful is it to people with an average grasp of computing?
The idea has a scent of pionieering spirit which makes it atractive, however!

It all depends on what you wish to do, since the Pi is not the only one out there.

Have a look at the Arduino entry (ooooerrr),

Exactly. Children, older people (me) and those between take to it really quickly.
Granted I have some previous experience with computer-related stuff, but consider how youngsters have begun learning coding with the device - back to basics to entice them away perhaps from expensive gaming boxes etc.
