My Satellite Setup
1.9 Metre dish with
My Location
Spain, Alicante region
I am based just South of Alicante and in order to receive English tv ie BBC ITV etc I need a 1.9 m dish. I have been offered a dish with option of taking a nearly new M Vision HD200 box for €90. What I want to know is.

1.Should I take the M Vision box, will it be good for this area.
2.If not what box would be best to get the most channels
3.If I get a Sky FTA card (a new white one) what box do I need, I have been told that from October 1st the new white cards will not work in some boxes.
4. Sky HD boxes, are they all made by one manufacturer ie Amstrad or are there different makes and if yes which is best.

Any help would be much appreciated, the last thing I want to do is buy only to find it is not suitable.

I have tried a few manhattens (plazas) and these were holdign channels the same if not longer than the infamous pace 2600!

Ideally a skuy box, but many "nonsky" receiver can be "patched" to read sky cards. it is expected that soo, possibly sometime LAte October old blue yellow house card will cease to function. Hopefully all new white card will still to function as they currently do, ie all channels part from SPorts and Movies in many of thepatched recievers.

Pace, Amstrad, Thomson, Samsung.
I have tried all and although perfrm very similar the Pace outperformed the others in Spain (Valencia Prov)

Only two things I would add to that.

The blue/yellow card will probably last longer than that, but not very much - maybe New Year for final switch-off?

Also it is by no means certain that patched receivers will be able to read the new white card. Obviously everyone hopes so but until it's announced and proved I would not pin all my faith on it. In the meantime go for a dedicated Digibox or $ly PVR (maybe even HD).
