This pass shows the north Atlantic & south Arctic nicely. Very little cloud over Iceland & central Greenland. The hole in the cloud north east of Iceland has Jan Mayen island visible when the image is zoomed in

I cannot explain how to set it up..There is some setup information at the start of this thread..Your SDR dongle needs to be setup with Zadig first though.The thread in the link shows how to do that. Basic setup guide to wxsat reception (using a windows computer)
Hopefully someone will come along to explain setup better

Or am I using some very clever software and a pile of cheap electronics? (Well as there are no goat sacrifices involved I think we can safely...

Does it matter what kind of USB dongle it is? Because I plan to get a QO 100 ES-HAIL 2.

If your going to be trying to look at the satellite weather downloads then that one you mentioned will not work, the satellites we are looking at are in the 137 MHz band and need a different type of dongle.

Also an antenna to receive them, I use the ""Airspy One"" dongle, it plugs into any computer or laptop, you would also need to download the ""SatDump"" software for viewing those satellites to be able to decode and render a photo of the satellites pass as they go over.

Here is what that software does for those satellites, this is one pass.

Can I also use a satellite dish or does the antenna have to be like the one in the picture I saw, just an informative question. (I have an 80 cm, 100cm satdish)

Which is the right airspy because there are many of them, and if there is one that is cheaper.

I think that Nooelec sdr is recomended. I use cheap Newgen rtl sdr. from aliexpress I paid £14 a long time ago.There are cheaper ones .
