hi want to convert a terrestrial system. 8 tv points to a satellite system.all the cables run to a central point where i could site a switch or connect to dish. was considering using a octo lnb with 80 cm dish or multiswitch with variable inputs and outputs and slope control. the existing cables are 2 years old and are not twin screened. has any one tried this using normal coax not sure of the quality of the cables or the cable run lengths. or if some one could give me a idea of the loss per merter for unscreened rg6 worst case senario. many thanks

Buy yourself a signal generator _http://www.promax.es/ing/products/fichaprod.asp?product=RP-050 _http://www.promax.es/ing/products/fichaprod.asp?product=RP-080&IDFamilia=17 and test the cables, it's more than likely that the loss will be unacceptable and prone to outside interference.

Forget what it looks like, if it is standard coax, then you will be buying yourself a lot of trouble unless you have tested the runs first and found it to be within acceptable loss figures.

The little signal generators are not expensive, but will save you a lot of aggro, I've turned down a couple of systems now, as after testing the cable there was unacceptable loss and they wouldn't pay for new cable runs.

It was the RP-050, seem to remember it was about £130, but well worth the expenditure.
