I was helping a neighbour align his dish recently and remembered I'd bought a Satlink WS6906 a few years back which got very little use.Still in it's fancy packaging too. I connected it up to the mains and it powered up fine. I left it charging for a few hours and surprisingly it's holding charge. I've identified that it's the older model. The problem now is the settings are way out of date on the unit. All the original accessories I got with the WS6906 are still in the box. They include a case, case strap, car charger, AV cable and user manual on a mini cd. What it didn't include was a mini disc with any software or drivers or a USB to serial cable. I imagine they were purposely left out as I imagine the retailer saw an avenue further down the line for an upgrade revenue stream. Fast forward to today. I do not have a PC with a serial port and cannot locate one. The WS6906 for some strange reason has only a USB port for connection to a PC. Now the problem. To get the PC and the WS6906 talking to each I would need a USB to serial male cable connected to a female serial to USB cable, I'm not sure how suitable this configuration would be. I do have the loader software and the latest bin dump file I got from here. Thanks. Could anyone who succeed upgrading their WS6906 via PC explain how they made the connection between their PC and WS6906. The installation manual does state that a serial connection needs to be made between both units and normally a satellite receiver would have a serial port connector to do this. After all that's exactly what the WS6906 is.
