I just got a used sky card off Ebay, its working fine but it keeps asking for a pin number. I haven't set up any pin numbers. If I cant get the pin from the old owner, what happens when I run out of attempt?

The card will self-destruct as it has the bulit it NDS self-destruct system so you only got 3 attempts after that it could take half your street out,

Without the pin you can not do any thing some times it is the last 4 digits on the card

Unfortunately, if the original user of the card had been a subscriber for a while, the PIN number may be the last four digits of the pre-swap over card, if that is the case, you are just going to have to live with it.

I have a card to which I have the PIN, but even so and after disabling all PIN requirements in the Parental Control menu, it still asks me for the PIN on certain programmes, damned annoying. :)

Well it sounds to me that she knew wht was wrong with the card, having been caught herself, and wanted to get shut ASAP.

Ask for a refund as she did not declare the problem in the description.

Decided to bite the bullet and order a FTV card. Interesting to note that in the terms and conditions, "From time to time the card may need to be replaced for security reasons, sky will issue a free replacement when needed for 3 years after the date of activation, after that date you may need to purchase a new card" Interesting to note that 2 other FTV cards I got off ebay have never had this problem. so it seams that if you do manage to get a cheep card make sure the parental controls have been turned off or you know the pin.

I work with sky boxes all the time . The pin yes , it's on the card but the restriction it's on the receiver . So if you have or can borrow a card with known pin you just dissable the restrictions on the box than watch with the card that you don't know the pin as it wont ask for a pin anymore .

the restrictions were never turned on, so that cant be the problem.

surely all the "18" channels require you to pay extra? Therefore they will ask for a PIN. I presume you are given the PIN once you have paid for it?

no.

If there was an 18 film on channel 4 or 5 or a 15 film before 8pm it would ask for the pin,

But there shouldn't be any 18 films on channel 4 or 5, or any other terrestrial channels before watershed as these channels are broadcast in some formats without any encryption.

Out of interest are there any 8 not 9 watershed channels on FTV channels?

I have had this behaviour too, but it was not the card it was the box ( or a combo of them ) i.o.w. the same card in a different box didn't keep asking for the pin. I'm not sure how, but it did eventually stop asking.

well I sold the card on. And before you ask yes he knew about the pin problem but he only wanted the card to experiment on? maybe he is trying to crack NDS? Defiantly was the card as I tried it in every sky box I have. I didn't mean 18 film on 4/5 it was 18 films on free film channels. every film on 4 and 5 asked for a pin no matter what the time.
