Hi,
I'm new to this so pardon my ignorance.I was looking at as previous installed a Silvercrest SL65 freeview lidl box, never worked. I aligned the dish using the beep ,had no compass or sat finder,i got i very high pitch sound and signal intensity up to 97% and quality up to 70% on astra 28.2,but every couple of seconds the signal would drop to zero for a mili second then back to 97%.No picture is available on the preset channels. Is this normal or has anyone else come across this problem?? I have confirmed the f connectors are good from LMB to reciever, could it be i am just on the edge finding a satellite/not the correct satellite as i am not 100% sure of the actual dish orienation; if so that could be a problem based on where the dish has been installed, wall to the left; or could a faulty reciever cause the signal to drop for a mili second.. any ideas would be appreciated....thanks

Forget the preset Channels: It is invariably the case that they were listed some time ago and are not necessarily going to conform to their present Frequencies etc.

I recommend you go into the Installation Menu and Navigate to Auto Search (Just below Antenna Setup). Also select the Free, as opposed to All, option and Scan.

This will give you up to date lists and you can then delete all the pre-stored guff.

However, if you find that there are a lot of non-UK Channels appearing, then you are probably on the wrong Satellite altogether (the usual wrong one is Astra1 at 19.2E)

If the Channels are actually from the correct Satellite, but you still have signal problems, you may need to tweak the Dish a tiny bit. On the other hand, the problem might be as simple as the wrong LNB "Skew": If you look from the LNB towards the Dish, the LNB should be rotated to around ten past two (the F connector should be at twenty to eight, more or less).

One step at a time .........

yeah when i did the auto scan i got all foreign channels,is astra 28.2 the english channels?? Suppose the satelite orientation shouldn't be too different for 28.2e as 19.2e,think ill wait for a comapss and if i set it 90deg for the arm to dish, set south turn east 28 degrees and 10 to 2 for the lmb i should pick up the right satelite??? Thanks for your help

Don't bother with a Compass. It'll be badly affected by the presence of the Dish. Also, you can't work out the desired Bearing quite as easily as you might imagine. It depends upon your location, for a start and their are all sorts of Magnetic and other anomalies that make it soooo much easier just to find it by common sense and a bit of elbow grease.

All you need do is move the Dish 9 degrees further East and raise the Elevation very slightly.

That should get you on 28E.

This issue of getting 19.2E instead is very common indeed!

Solved in minutes ............. :)

Do it NOW. You know it makes sense!

I know quoting one's own Posts is a sign of incipient madness, but I need to correct "raise" to "lower".

Apart from my attention being drawn to this by a friendly PM, why on earth haven't any bright sparks hauled me over the coals "live" so to speak?

You are all far too polite :-rofl2

Apologies to grantbp.
