We have a basic S/D sky set up with a single LNB. I have an old HD dark box that I would like to use for Freesat HD.

I don't have ladders at the moment and rather than fit a twin LNB and run another cable it would be simpler if I could switch the LNB between the receivers.

Is there a simple switch to do this?

If yiou are never going to be using both boxes at the same time then just get a simple A/B switch for inside the house - about a tenner from ebay.

If you want to use both boxes the the same time then you will need another cable run to the second location.

I would not use an A/B switch, you could FUBAR something if you don't switch the receiver's totally off first.

It's best to use a dual output LNB and run a second coax, better to do the work now then pay the price later on for a new receiver.

Some A/B switches do a "Make before Break" action, this could connect the two receivers power supply's together for a few milliseconds, this may not hurt the receivers at first, but over time it may do something.

Personally i would have thought the simplest and easiest solution would be to connect feed into dark box HD then from Loop out to standard Sky box, OP knows he cant use both at the same time and this will cost very little

I've never had or even heard of any issue caused by the A/B Cable Isolation switches commonly available for Satellite applications in the UK.

I have three of them in regular use for live switching and know that other Members here use them too.

If there is a risk - and I don't believe there is - it is infinitesimal.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Some that are out there will be of the make/break type and designed for cable where there is no voltage potential between inner and outer braid. Those are the ones to avoid.

I seem to have a make before break version - my Promax screamed for help (S/C found) when I switched over live :-doh
