Hi guys, I would really appreciate some help with the following issue:

I have a cable in my flat coming down from the centralized Satellite system on the building's roof, containing both Hotbird and Nilesat signals. It works perfectly fine with my one receiver.
I would like to be able to connect/split this for another receiver to work in parallel. I bought a two way splitter combiner from Radioshack. It only works partially. It seems to me that if I select a Hotbird channel for example on the first receiver I can not in parallel select a Nilesat channel on the second one, despite selecting the right Diseqc in each receiver. Also, there seems to be a conflict when I select a Vertical polarization channel on one rcvr and a Horizontal one on the other.
Could you kindly help with some advice?
So I would like to have from one cable, two separate receivers, both accessing both satellites.
Currently I am using the extra OUT of the first to connect it to the IN of the second, but again I am limited by the fact that if the first rcvr is tuned for a Hotbird channel I can only watch Hotbird channels on the second.
Is this a possible setup? I don't have access to the roof of the bldg but I presume there is a diseqc switch up there combining the signals from two dishes, one from Hotbird and another from Nilesat.

many thanks in advance

Welcome,

You require an additional cable feed so that both receivers will work switching bands independently; from a possible multiswitch if it's a flat :D

No, it is not. You will have to contact your building admninistrator for the extra needed feed, as only the signals from one polarity,on one band from one satellite are sent down the cable at once. Your receiver selects the settings it needs.

As Nilesat is a strong satellite in your location (like Amos in my location), perhaps you can consider installing a dish in your apartment in the balcony for example if you have the right orientation and point it to 7W.
You already have a receiver so the extra cost is for a cheap 80-100cm dish, LNB, cable and DIY installation.
This way with receiver 1 you can select HB or Nilesat and with receiver 2 Nilesat only.
You won't need the Diseq switch in this case.

Unfortunately I don't have a balcony, otherwise individual and private dishes would probably always be the most flexible solution.
Also, the building administrators are not helpful at all, saying that they can't bring a new cable down to may flat.
So am guess I am stuck with using the two receivers only for the same satellite and the same polarity at a time :-(

Many thanks for your prompt replies,
brgds

What about a window facing the right direction?

You need to have a view of the sky in a South Westerly direction for 7W according to dispointer.

Ask the administrator if there are any spare outlets on the multiswitch, if there are, then you can use a Stacker/De-Stacker to piggyback the second feed to your apartment.
