Hello there. This is a simple question but a complicated answer, no doubt. My research has hit a brick wall so here goes. I own one of a block of six appartments with a communal dish. The council who manage the building will not allow an extra dish, I would love to make scathing remarks, the building is 40 years old, but will not. As far as I can tell there are 6 splitters in the attic, one for each appt. What do I need to buy to set up an extra line in so my sky+ works fully??? Thanks, Colmo.
I have just registered so go easy!

"I own one of a block of six apartments"

I assume you mean, the block has 6 apartments of which I own one?

You need to clarify some details:

Does each apartment have a satellite and normal tv ( uhf ) feed?

Do 4 leads from the existing dish go into the splitter?

What make is the splitter?

Can you have a surface mount cable on the outside of the building cant be that high, 3 floors of two aprtments.

Will be able to help further.

With six apartments with sky feeds, there's more likely a single switch installed. In addition to the extra info required above, if there are any manufacture and model numbers on the equipment 'in the loft', post them up.

Are you sure everyone in the block uses sky?

If not just use one of the unused feeds to give you two for your sky+

AVC do alot of these installs for sky and they will normaly add spliter boxes with extra feeds due to skys push on Sky+HD so their may be a good chance that their will be space for another feed to set up.

I might be totally wrong... but im sure that for sky+ you need a different LNB

the dish you share, does it have 4 coax cables coming from the LNB or 1?

if its just 1 that is then split 6 ways, apart from signal strength problems i dont think its will work on your sky+ either

not for the use of watching one channel while recording another.

Likelihood is it will be a basic IRS system. If your lucky it will have a 25% redundancy like most of the ones i have installed for my local council.

If you can access the head end and don't want to run a new cable you may have some success using a stacker and a destacker to send the 2 signals down the cable.

Its just a case of fitting the 2 outputs off the switch into the stacker and then connect it up to the feed to the flat. Back in the flat you just connect the destacker to the socket and the 2 feeds from the destacker to the sky+ box.

I have had varing results with these units but nine times out of 10 i just install a second cable from the head end to the property.

Yes my local council are cheapskates and have had all the cabling installed outside :-doh!

I had the same problem in spain at the parents home, but they allowed dishes to be installed on the side of apartments. However on the roof they had at least a 2m dish on the roof with a analog LNB, so done a quick survey who used it and that was no one , so put a digital LNB on the end re- positioned the dish to 28.2 E and ran some fresh cable down to my parents place and anyone else who wanted it, which was no one.
