Sky digital box / dish / card query

hi dudes, please could you help a struggling newbie?

I had a multi room box at my mums a few years back. I moved to an apartment block and plugged this into the wall socket from the communal dish...it worked just like I was back home.

I am now moving into a house, problem is the previous tennants have took their dish with them. if I get a dish put on the wall, will I still be able to use the box and card as if I was still at my mums years ago, or the apartment until recently?

any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

Yes, of course.

Certainly for Free To Air Channels, which don't require any Card.

Do you have a valid Card now? The point being that an active Multiroom Card used for any length of time other than at the registered address will lead the "owner " to get snotty letters after which full Subs would be charged.

I suspect the Card wil be a Blue one with a Yellow House, so it will be killed soon anyway unless replaced by a White one.

But for BBC, ITV and much else, you don't need a Card. The box will still work.

hi thanks for that, it is a new white card, it arrived to replace the old one. I used it at my flat for nearly 2 years and it worked fine, they never knew i had moved out from my mums I presumed. so would it work at a house with a new dish, like it did at my flat with a communal dish?

Multiroom is supposed to be actively policed by virtue of the requirement to have all boxes with multiroom cards connected to the same phone line.

The reason they do this is to stop subsidised cards being used at other addresses (If done on a widespread scale, Sky would incur huge Revenue loss) and they normal write two nasty letters before imposing full subs.

So the fact you've managed in the way you have for so long is one of those mysteries that has slipped through the net and best kept quiet

I think I get you dude.

we got a puppy a few years back and it chewed thru the cable, we have never had it fixed as do not use many or any interactive services. so, would you recommend I get a dish and carry on as before, and obviously tell my mum not to get the line fixed
